what is my Springfield .45 1911
I bought this off a buddy years ago and forgot about it. I am trying to figure out what I have, people have said its a custom shop gun but I think not. I would love to hear your thoughts. Is this just a run of the mill .45?
Value?
Thank you

Nothing custom shop there than I can see. Looks like a standard Springfield Officers size model. They made a micro size for a bit as well, but they were still pretty much off the shelf guns. My zoom is a bit blurry, but it looks like the made in Brazil stamp on the dust cover which is consistent for years of their more recent off the shelf guns.
It's a nice compact carry piece! As to the value, it's going to vary based on location and who's going to need a compact .45. Most compact gun users lately are gravitating towards the compact plastic 9s/40s etc (Glock, M&P, etc). That being said, find a .45 1911 guy and you'd get more. Maybe $500-700 range depending on where and who??????? There's a few compact Kimbers on the shelves around here getting close to $1000, which I think is about twice what they are worth.

Possibly may have been assembled here, but with Brazialian made parts. Nothing really wrong with Brzialian parts. We just think "Made in USA"'is better. Sometimes it is.

Those Compact's are commanding premium prices as of late, and are hard to find. I believe the new Range Officer Compact took it's place. Beavertail, better sights and it appears to be in excellent condition makes it worth it to keep it. Check out the Springfield forum here---http://forums.1911forum.com/

It has the key start?
My 2004 SA full size 1911 made in Brazil shoots awesome right out of the box. Key switch and all. She's a keeper.

I have an Officers ACP which looks like the same gun. One sweet carry piece. I have CT grips coming for it Saturday. I love this gun.
You will enjoy it too if its as accurate as mine.

Perhaps key STOP wold be more to the point. Anyway, it is S/A's extra safety that is activated through a tiny key hole on the left top of the mainspring housing. It effectively blocks the mainspring,(hammer spring) from transferring power to the hammer.
If yours is an older model it will not have the little hole in the MSH, and if it does, and you do not like the idea, the MSH is a simple change out.
Note: I have never heard of any trouble with that little safety.
