Beautiful set-up. Where do they have black squirrels? I don't recall ever seeing one in my travels. Pretty neat. How did you come up with his name?

They're all over the place up around East Lansing, Michigan. I saw my first one in Haslett, then more of them in Okemos. I'm just figuring they're an upper Midwest variation. First time I saw one was back around '93. I remember thinking, "No, I'm not really seeing that".

Congratulations on getting that gorgeous pistol. I've looked at two or three of them in the past several months, but they've been priced out of my range. I did find one on Bud's at a good price, but don't know if it comes with the whole package of boxes and stuff. My problem would be I'd want to shoot it and carry it, I'd want to show it off. Nice photos, by the way.

We have white ones, black ones, and gray ones in these parts!
Squirrel aside, that's a really nice set! Colt and El Paso are great at what they do--I would say the best!

Brevard, North Carolina has a large population of white squirrels...they have a White Squirrel Festival every year.
And where I live, we have White Squirrel Lane. It's the only place in the city where they live. They stay in that one area, and have not spread throughout the city.

There have been white squirrels on the campus of the University of Louisville at list since I was in school there in 1956. Black squirrels are plentiful at the Whirlpool State Park, down-river from Niagara falls. These are all color phases of the common grey.
I had an easy shot of one that was deep, mahogany red with a cream-colored underside. Definitely a grey, not a fox squirrel.
I didn't take the shot. The little bugger was just too pretty to kill.

I signed-in again just to tell you how much I enjoyed the excellent photos of both gun and holster. Thank you!
But I think that's the M-1912 holster. The M-1916 is the familiar one from both world wars and Korea and Vietnam.
I wish that I could get two examples of this gun. I'd store one and shoot the other. They probably cost less than an original 1911 in really nice shape and have better metallurgy. You can have the look and feel of the old one and shoot modern ammo.

Your friend looks kind of scary. He has that look in his eye, you know that crazy look. And nice looking 1911.

Kudos to Texas Star for staying on subject. That is one gorgeous pistol.
I suppose we could start a squirrel thread.

Are the sights hard to see through like the originals, or are they more "generous"?

T-Star is right; that's a replica M1912 holster, intended for cavalry use. Nice find, both pistol and holster.

Buds still has these for $931.
Colt O1911ANVIII 1911 Anniv Edition III 45 ACP 5" 7+1 Hdwood $931.00 SHIPS FREE
That's where I got mine. Comes with custom shop white outer box and blue inner box. Open it to reveal the brown cardboard box with kraft paper, two mags, orig. style manual, and tool.
I picked mine up yesterday and took it straight to the range.
I bought mine to shoot. I don't think these will ever be great collector items.
