Colt 1903 - some folks will love this
Do you miss the Colt Pocket Hammerless? Well, as they say in Hollyweird....
It's baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!
A New Colt 1903 Hammerless?- SHOT Show 2015 ? GunsAmerica Digest
Why Colt chose to bring back this particular .32 caliber pocket pistol is hard to guess but there it is if you just have to have one!
It seems to me there are other old Colts that would have more appeal but they know their market I reckon!

I'll be on one of those like ugly on an ape..... uhhhh.... I mean I think I would like to have one of those..
If they happen to make the 1908 in .380, even better..
I have one of each but they're too purty to pack.

Iggy, I was stunned to hear that they were General Officer's Models in .32 instead of being in .380. But, like I said, Colt knows its market......I think......

It sounds like Colt is actually making the 1903 again and not repeating Remington's fiasco of the R51. I think this is a good move for Colt.

To me, the Colt Pocket Hammerless was/is one of the all time greats. Amazing that they are making a current production one in .32acp. But at MSRP in the article, you can get an original one in great shape. Love to shoot them.

Colt....another way to say pricing oneself out of business. It's a great gun..but that's a lot of money for one.

I wonder if they will have the fit/finish of the original 1903/1908.
The slide frame fit on my 1908 is mind blowing, not seen on any of the new semi autos. I bet they dont try to duplicate it on the new ones.

For that kind of money I could buy a original in very nice condition. For half that I could get a really nice shooter grade example. They are a niche item and I can't see much demand at that price. I hope I am wrong, but I doubt it.

Having originals in both 32 and 380, I don't really care about these new ones.
BUT, hopefully bringing them back means that magazines would be available.
That is a good thing.

I can't find it, but there was a rather lengthy discussion about this very gun a while back here. Quite a bit of discussion on the Colt Forums as well.
Bottom line is that Colt contracted the job out. They say Colt on 'em, and are built to the original specs, but Colt ain't the one making them. I can't think of the name, but it is a respectable company. Same outfit that built the replica gattling guns for Colt. Anybody remember? I'm not sure, but that might be a good thing these days.
Rumor has it that the retail price will end up considerably less than the listed MSRP. We'll have to wait and see about that.

I had an original Colt Pocket Pistol in .380 that I bought 30 or so years ago. That's why this story got my attention. The magazine's spring was worn and weak and wouldn't feed. I traded it decades ago for a Star Model S in .380. Weirdly, that Star is not only ridiculously accurate, it is well known in some circles as one of Star's finest guns. I still have it, too.

This is a TALO "Colt" contracted pistol. At the list price it sells for a few hundred under the price of a 90 percent condition original. TALO "Colts" are known for being shooters. Original 1903's-08's have gone up dramatically in value while being shooters. I'd rather pay 1800 for a 95% 1903.

They'll be like the model 16-4s and Classic series of revolvers that Smith put out.
Nothing like the originals.

Kudos to Colt for not coming out with some new run of the mill black-clone-polymer pistol (yet).

I'd personally spend $1000+ on an original rather than a repro,,which is what this is regardless of the Colt name stamped on it.,,and they aren't a real Officers Model no matter how they spin it.
It'll probably come in a neat looking gov't issue box and wrap to further the illusion.
Whatever people like.
Personally, I think the same pistol in .22LR may have been a better choice. Keep the Officers Model illusion or not. At least .22LR makes it more useful and perhaps marketable. In 22 it would draw my interest,,but the price would be a stumbling block.
Some awfully nice condition 1903/1908 Colt pistols are still available at 1K and above. Some great shooter grade pistols at prices below that.
The '08/380 cal pistols,,you pay the premium of course.
But a plain 32 Colt 1903 auto can be yours for a lot less than,,and it's the real deal.
I do agree it's nice to see a steel built classic pistol and not another plastic ray gun looking thing. The market will of course decide wether classic steel or rayguns are the way to go!
Just some thoughts.

"Base model will have an MSRP of $1,395.00"
I suppose everything is relative but just for comparison I recently sold
this Type IV Model M from 1928 for $1250.00 and it was actually made by Colt.

I'm assuming that is an original box and paperwork with the type IV in the picture Rick. Wish I had been in the loop. It's exactly what I'm talking about; a beautiful vintage Model M Colt for less that what Colt will be asking for a TALO reproduction. My 1926 1903 shoots like a new pistol. It cost me a little over half of the new 1903 MSRP.
