I have seen nice blued Pythons going here in CA or prices approaching $2,000. I couldn't guess if the stainless would be worth more or less. To me, it would be less, but I like blue steel guns.

$3000-4000 easily assuming the box is original and has the end label. Maybe more. I know I've seen a few good used shooters w/o box go for close to $3k lately. Unfired usually adds a good bit to the value

The Python is a beautiful revolver. Finding one NIB is a rarity and it would be $4000 easy. Having said that, if it were me I'd buy 3 or 4 S&W model 27-2s in good to excellent condition instead...but that's just me.

Is that e-nickel or bright nickel? looks a little shiny for e-nickel (I have an 8" e-nickel) - also you have the outer sleeve etc for the box? Box would say coltguard or e-nickel. Nice python regardless -Dan

That is a very nice python, but not E nickel, unfortunately. That actually looks bright stainless. Furthermore, the Styrofoam sleeve and manual looks to be a later vintage than an E nickel Python would be.

Here's an electroless nickel model from 1981. They are much more matte in appeance.

Pythons go for some crazy prices on the auction sites these days. 4 grand wouldn't surprise me. It's nuts but that's how things are.

nice, yes enickel, it looked shiney-er in the first pics. $3500 minimum, $4000+ to the right buyer... see if you can find the original grips though...

Actually those are the correct factory colt rubber grips this was given to my god father probably in the mid 80's from a friend of his that owns a gun shop here locally . He was told never to shoot it leave it the way it is put it away and he did. Now i have it in the same condition the way it was when it was taken out of the store. Ive done a little research on the grips and have read that the e- nickel model both came with wood and rubber factory grips then shortly they made the stainless steal model that also came standard with the factory rubber grips . I also ask my self why would anyone in there right mind switch out the original grips on a nib python and not keep the originals??

When Colt switched over to the "3rd Generation" stocks for the Python, the checkering became more aggressive. Spending time at the range using the original stocks became very painful after 40-50 rounds. I found out the hard way with my 1978 Python. After a few hundred rounds, I went to a LGS, and he showed me a set of Herrett's Shooting Masters. They were finger-grooved, and had smooth sides. I bought a set, and also picked up a set of Pachmayr Presentation grips. I almost left the originals with the LGS owner, but thought otherwise, and took them home to be left in the box. Since Pythons were in current production, folks probably didn't give it a lot of thought if they changed out the stocks. You could get a new set then for around $30.

I modified the Herrett's by sanding down the back strap, cutting a small "thumb rest" in the left panel, and refinished them using Tru Oil. Those grips have remained on that gun since 1979, only removed for cleaning. Over 3K rounds through it.

I own two other, older Pythons, and both have the "2nd Generation" stocks on them. They're much more comfortable for shooting.

Those aren't the original grips. A lot of the E-Nickel pythons did come with rubber grips but not all of them. Some came with the Gen 3 walnuts. Either way, the rubber grips were not finger grip style. A correct set of rubbers will run less than $80 either way so its not a huge deal. A NIB E-nickel 6" would go for anywhere from $3800 to over $5k. That is an extreme case but the right seller, at the right time of the year and with at least two guys that really want it can produce some high numbers. This particular seller gets a lot of money for his auctions on a routine basis.

Not sure what you were saying but: If you are saying you can get LNIB E-Nickel pythons for $2k, I will gladly take 5 of them.
