I picked up a Henry Survival rifle a while back and finally got to shoot it yesterday.
I was really surprised with its accuracy. I didn't expect much since its not only short, but also an insert. The front sight is a very visible orange, but plastic. As long as it stays on, it works fine.
Out to about 75' it rarely missed. Only one failure to feed out of 200 rds., but hey, it's a .22 and cheap TigerCat ammo at that.
I was amazed at the price sticker still on the box....59cents!
I have a few bricks of it and wish I had bought a truckload.
All in all, I think I'll keep it and toss it in the trunk.
My friends said they'll be looking for one too.

For a toss about truck, trunk or boat gun, I think it'll do fine.
It seems to like standard velocity best for accuracy, but my testing has been limited.
I thought about getting a cheap 4x scope for it but it may not be worth the trouble of re-zeroing every time you take it off and on.
It seems that the peep sight works well for what it was designed for, short range work.
I'll shoot it at 50yds. next and see how it does. I imagine that may be stretching it with its trigger, barrel and sights.

I have the standard model Henry. That rifle is my favorite firearm to shoot and I own Glocks, S&Ws, Rugers, Sigs, and other assorted firearms. The Henry is very accurate too! That is one rifle I plan on passing down to my future generations.



Eventually I'd like to pick one up in .357 magnum.

I have to say, I haven't heard a bad word about them.

I was browsing one day and found a stoeger 22lr luger and a new Henry 22cal lever action 16" carbine. There both living in my home now. The Henry is awesome. Again for the 4yo grandson. But I'll enjoy them while I'm still on this side of the green. The only thing that's wrong with the Henry rifle is I want more of them. I want the 20" standard lever, the 16" & 20" golden boys with the octagon barrels. The 22's can be habit forming really bad.

The only problem with the Henry rifle company is I can't special order a Henry 45/70 with a longer octagon barrel. I would like a 45/70 gov caliber with a 32" octagon barrel. A buffalo gun. I always wanted a 50/90 lever action too. I wish these older BP calibers would get a make over with the smokeless gun powder. A upgrade in performance and power. A Quigley single shot in 50/120 or in 50/140 would be cool too.

I think the older falling blocks and lever actions are due for a make over and a update in power. There written off as out dated.

I passed on one of the survival rifles, and have regretted it since. At the time the Ruger 10/22 take down was in the rumor mill and I wanted to wait for it to come out.

The Henry versions are reported to be the most reliable. Pretty neat how it fits into the stock, and will float if it has to. Imagine being in canoe and having an accident.

This is the concept I was hoping Ruger would use to build the 10/22 take down version, but they went in a different direction.

Many years I had one of the predecessor’s rifles (made by Armalite -AR7) if I remember correctly. It turned out to be a total jamomatic.

Got rid of it at a lost just to get rid of it!

Sounds like Henry has the problems worked out!

BigBill, seem to remember seeing something about Ruger downsizing their #1 lineup. fewer calibers available for 2015. When I bought my #1 in 45/70 it only came with a 22" bbl. How I wished for a longer barreled on in the same caliber to come out. I think eventually came out with one with a 26" long bbl. At better than twice the cost of my #1. I paid about $600 for the one i own. Frank
