Very nice...
I missed out on Gold Cup in
a Commander this weekend.
For the current listed prices on some
of the boxed S&W 's nice Colts can be bought.

So you haven't bought this yet? Or have you? I'm so glad to see that Colt didn't put a ring hammer on this pistol.

New 70 Series Colt GC
I certainly want to congratulate you on adding this fine Colt 1911 to your list.
It is my understanding that this model was first introduced this year at the SHOT Show. As you know it has the "highly desirable" Series 70 firing system instead of the Series 80. I looked up the difference on the Internet and then decided it was more than I needed to know.
I picked mine up on February 13th and I am ready to take it to the range for a very enjoyable workout.
A very wise purchase in my book!

They are great guns. Were you looking at one of the Custom Editions which came in blue or stainless? Or the much more common standard Gold Cup Commander that was only made in stainless

I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do mine. They are very accurate. I have has this one for 40 years or so. I had the frame done in CPII as I have always wanted a 2 tone 1911. The plating also tightened up the fit.

Hope you enjoy yours as much as I have enjoyed mine. The old girl is a 1957 model and still stock other than the grips and still going strong. Tried all the newer brands of 1911 framed target guns and with me on the trigger this is the one I can shoot the best. Daily carry gun when I am not toting a 3.5 inch Pre-27.

Finally, I noticed this years GC is available in a Series 70. Had to have it!
This is my several-years-old Series 80 blue...
The 2015 Series 70...

How about the RAREST of them all!
Below is a "100 Years of Service" Series 80 'NO GRIP SCREWS' edition. It happens when the owner thoroughly cleans and photographs a model without noticing the grip screws are still in a cup next to him. I've never seen one before...

Do they make it with a beavetail grip safety? That hammer bite really chews up the back of my hand.

It's about time Colt started making then once again! Could never figure out why they have been selling a Series 70 Gov't model over the past 10 years but only made the Gold Cup in Series 80 configuration. I guess a lightbulb went on in someones head.
Should be a great shooter!

I'm in the same boat. They make a stainless Series 80 Gold Cup that has the upswept beavertail (which is the only current production GCNM with one.)

Since there is a bit of a drift...
I didn't know these were out and thank you in advance for helping me to spend money.
There appear to be distinct differences and I wonder how many people will buy one of these now; and at some point, decide to purchase an 'original' Series 70 GC. Prices on the older ones going up?
