Default Nice LGS Find

Now that the weather has been warming up, my wife and I have been going for a stroll on the walking track at our city park. On the way home, we have to go right by one of my LGS so we stopped in today. I wandered down to the case where they keep the used guns and there was a Ruger Single-Six old model. When the owner took it out of the cabinet for me to look at, my wife said, "Just go ahead and hand him the paperwork now because I don't think you're getting it back." It's a 1970 vintage and has a few blemishes on it but the bore looks great.

So, when will you be posting the obligatory photos?

Fantastic wife, by the way.

Gun could be a keeper assuming it shoots good.
Wife a keeper either way.
IMHO.

Is it a "4 clicker"? Does it have a "flatgate"? We need pictures.

Nice find.

If it's a 1970 it is long past the flat gate. I have my Dad's, it is a late 50's Single Six and has the regular rounded gate. The Flat gate was only made for the first 4 years, 53-57?

The old 3 screw SS was changed in the early 70's.

If it is an old 3 screw it is a very nice pick up.

We have put many, many bricks through my gun, still solid and accurate. Awesome SA 22.

When I get a chance to get out the Pentax digital. I refuse to post ****** cell phone pics.

It is a 4 clicker but as someone else said, long past the flat gate era. Used some Renaissance Wax this evening and it looks pretty good.

Had a OM Single Six in college with 22 Magnum cylinder, box and paperwork. Stupidly traded it for a beat up Remington M10 pump gun and a Remington 511 .22 rifle. Shotty long gone, but still have the 511. The Boy Scouts get to work it once a year on Rifle Merit Badge weekend..

Congratulations! They are great shooters. I picked up a 1959 vintage Single Six last month and it's very accurate. It sounds like yours does not have the transfer bar system installed, which is good. Don't send it to Ruger for any reason, because they will install it, which will hurt the gun's value.

We have been married thirty six years next month and if my wife ever said that in those circumstances, I would likely faint from shock. You are a lucky guy as I'm sure you know...Heck, mine won't even go in a gun shop with me and prefers to wait in the car. Course, I sit in the car when I take her to a fabric store...Congratulations on the new toy.

GO INTO THE FABRIC STORE!!!! For about $2.00 you can buy a lifetime supply of white cotton flannel cleaning patches. Ask your wife to cut the fabric into 1-1/2" wide strips that you can roll up neatly. Just cut off what you need when cleaning guns -- patches for everything from 22 LR to 45-70.

My $2 piece of fabric is 13 years old and still making patches.

That's a good point but I buy white, cotton t-shirts for fifty cents at the nearby Salvation Army Store on half price Wednesdays to make cleaning patches...I do go in with her to buy pillow ticking for patch material to use in my muzzleloaders once in a while.

Well, I'm not proud, I'll post some "****** cell phone pics" of my latest find. This one's from 1965 and the condition is, shall we say, "minty". Don't let the shiny sposts fool you, there's no missing bluing on this one! (CCPP's) No box or other "goodies", but I'm pleased with it.

I'm probably going to remove the Phantom and send it to Ruger for a replacement rear sight. They require the upgrade, but they do return the original parts so that the collector's value remains intact. I'm okay with that, because I then have the option of restoring the original parts, if I want.
