New Ruger Alaskan 454
I really want a S&W 460 but came across a deal on a Ruger. I imagine it will be fun to shoot, until I can get a nice 460.

Lol. No I wish I lived somewhere cold though, so I could conceal it.

I have a Ruger Alaskan 44 mag. It is way to heavy for me to carry! Doesn't conceal well either. It is fun to shoot though!

...And it has a very smooth DA trigger pull. There is a niche club of Forum members who own this gun and appreciate it. Love mine!

P.S. Thee is a neat tanker shoulder rig that fits it, by Lobo Leather, IIRC.

Thanks all. I'll look into that shoulder rig. I just got it all cleaned and ready with Froglube. Very anxious to shoot it now.
I really love the feel of the gun, and the short, crisp trigger.

Do you get all or most the benefits of that caliber in such a short barrel?
I'm reading velocity is 1400 - 1900 fps and energy is form 1700 - 1900 ft lbs. But this is out of a 7.5 in barrel

Hey Dump1567, I got that holster with it. Might try it out if I find a nice gun belt. It's not a super heavy gun. Those are great pics.
So I have some 260 grain factory loads. They're ok to start with right? I thought about getting a few LC rounds, but I'm a little on the fence about that.

I just read an article saying the difference is about 300 fps. Maybe an average? Real Guns - Ruger's Super Redhawk Alaskan

Can one cut the cylinder for moon clips and thus be able to shoot .45 ACP out of it as well as .45 LC and .454? THAT would make the gun usefull!

The 45LC is real easy to control. 454 rounds are a challenge, therefore also fun...and they make cool pics.

This one doesn't make as much flash, but is humongous fun to shoot. There are at least two cases in the air although they may be hard to see.

Ruger Alaskan
Congratulations regarding your Ruger Alaskan .454 Casull. The Ruger Alaskan is a very cool revolver. I picked up an Alaskan .44 awhile back (couldn't find one in .454).
Trigger was pretty rough. I took it to Mag-Na-Port and had the trigger smoothed out.
I didn't like the grips, so I changed them out for the old style Ruger grips. There was a problem. The hole in the grip frame of the Ruger is now smaller than the old style Rugers. I did not want to bore the hole in the frame, so I had Mag-Na-Port mill down the pin to fit the hole.
Below original condition.
Original pin on the left, new milled down pin on the right.
Below: Old style grips fit perfect. Grashorn "elk horn" inserts complete the grips.

Awesome. I bet the .44 will last forever. I couldnt be any happier wth the trigger on mine. It's perfect. I must have got lucky there.
Someone above said it was heavy to carry in a holster. Mine doesn't bother me at all in the Ruger holster.
