Ruger 10 22 users, preferred hunting scope.
Just bought a new Ruger 10 22. Got a 1400 round bucket of REM ammo for 69.00 with it.
What scopes do you guys use for hunting and plinking. Mine will not be a bulls eye competition gun. Squirrels, rabbits, pests and fun plinking.
Cheap is OK too, as long as it is clear up close to 25 plus yards.
My wife doesn't like the Leupold 2x7 I put on her Kimber 84. It may end up being the donor.
Thanks for your input.
Duane.

I had a fairly old but very clear Weaver steel tube 2 1/2X on my 10-22
until a guy who liked those scopes made me a good offer for it. I have
two Leupolds that I'm considering replacing it with, a 4X M8 or a Vari
XII 1-4X variable. Probably go with the 4X.

I have a Redfield "Revelation" 2 X 7 power scope on my 10/22, it is compact, good optics. I like it a lot...
They cost about $155 new, they are made in the Leupold factory but have a Redfield label. I understand they are identical to the Leupold Vari X I...

I also have a VX II 1-4 in the safe. I pulled it when I sold my pre 64 M-70 375 H&H.
It is a very clear scope and probably would work.

Thanks, again my wife doesn't like the Leupold 2x7 on her deer rifle, if I get her a different one I'll use the 2x7. Thanks.

10/22 scope
I got a 10/22 when they first came out put a K-3x weaver on it.
Bought the Sporter model when it came out, put a K-4x weaver
on it. Still have the Sporter with K4, was my main squirrel piece
for years. Still holds 0, perfect small game rig. My main rig now
is 77/22 that I bought when they came out. Put Redfield 4x on
it, can't do better in my opinion. I found if you get up over4x
you have parallax problems, unless you buy one made for 22.

For my 10/22 I use a Bushnell 1.75-4x with a circle reticle. I can't remember what I paid for it. I got it through Cabela's and I don't think I paid a heckuva lot for it...but it's been a perfect little scope for that rifle. I usually don't go above 2x with it.
Now, for my Winchester 9422M, I use a Leupold 4x rimfire scope. Now that's a great little scope, too. Of course, the Leupold was more expensive, but either way, both scopes will do the job for you.

I've had a 10/22 for 41 years now and have tried all manner of sights. Factory open, William's receiver (peep) sight, fixed 4 power , 3-9 variable power scopes , big and small scopes. The one on it now is a Millet SP-1 Red Dot sight...I find it best for everything within 25 yards, especially plinking and fun shooting. It has a 3 moa dot for accurate shot placement, fast to pick up sight, no parallax , eye doesn't have to be centered on tube...just put the dot on target and squeeze. The only down side is it is no magnification. But I fell for the high magnification trap at first too, but, have discovered magnification can work against you, especially if shooting up close...I realy like the dot!

I bought mine in 1979 used with a Weaver 4X. It was the previous owners squirrel gun. Death ray accurate.

On the full length stock, it appears you don't leave it behind the truck seat much.
I've used many different types of scopes on 22's over the years and have found for hunting and plinking. Even when I've had 3x9 scopes I usually left it on the lowest setting.
Parallax is the critical issue for scopes normally used for Center fire rifles. I have a 50 dollar 3x9 Simmons on a 22 bolt action and was able to clear it up for 25 feet. Not all do that. I've noticed that straight 4 power usually is not so critical.
Many of you recommended scopes I have already, a 1x4 and 2x7 Leupold. I like the latter on deer rifles. 2 is great in the brush.
Thanks for everyone's input.
Duane.

Got a cheap $50 red dot with 5 moa. Works good to 50 yards. Light and compact works for me

Scope's are good, but for 25 yards or so , the red dot, with a 1 inch tube and 3 MOA dot has got it beat six ways to Sunday. The Millet SP-1 can be had for $70.00 from Midway. The one on my 10/22 is 13 years old and still going strong.

I use a Burris 3X9 Compact that I mounted on my 10/22 almost 30 years ago. I keep meaning to send it in to have the parallax adjusted to 50 yards but it keeps getting squirrels for me as it is. Physically it's the perfect size on a compact rifle like the 10/22.
