Pre War Colt Detective Special W/ King Super Police Night Sight Package
Here are some pics of a VERY interesting Pre War Colt Detective Special that I picked up at a Local Gun Show of all places. It has been fully worked over by King with a Super Police Night Sight Package,Short Action Conversion,Bobbed Hammer DAO.The smooth "Trigger Shoe" is stamped "KING Pat. Pending".This is the only Colt Detective Special that I can find that has been 100% confirmed to be worked over by King. The Super Police package itself is also very rare,Only about 3 other examples online. There are some Letters/Numbers stamped on the Back Strap pointing to a possible LE link.I can just imagine a Plain Clothes Detective in the 1930's packing this Gun.The Double Action pull on this Gun is nothing sort of amazing,Short and sweet. The Guy at the Gun show said that nobody wanted it because it had been modified...
Also wanted to thank Forum Member D-B for the amazing Sambar Stag Stocks.

The coolest Colt I've ever seen. What amazing luck to find something like that at a gun show.

It's nice to see another pistol with the King Super Police Night Sights on it. I have this S&W M&P frame from 1948 that I found at a local gun shop some years back with the same package. This pistols was shipped from the factory to King's Gun Sight Company in San Francisco.
Sorry, that there is an S&W on a Colt page listing!!

No problem,Yours is One of the only Guns I could find Online with the Super Police Package.Sixgunstrumpet has a 1917 with the same sight setup.I have never seen another Colt with these sights,Or another Detective Special even worked on by King. The action is what really intrigues me about this Gun,The DA is unlike anything I have seen before.Usually Colts have a heavy DA pull that stacks at the end,This One is light and smooth all the way through.I was worried about light strikes but I put about 100rds through it without a single One.

There's one more that I've seen, it was on these forums, and it was also a 1917 I think. The guy got it at a pawn shop and was asking about it. Looked like the only time he had posted on here. I cannot for the life of me seem to find the thread again.

Wow, never saw a Super Police in a DS - I did see one in a cut down New Service Commercial in 45 ACP, which looked like a Un-Fitz Fitz Special (no cut away trigger guard but cropped hammer spur with checkering on top of hammer and backstrap). The inside of your DS must be completely friction free if Kings did their action work on it - extremely nice close in pistol!
I think they used Radium as the active ingredient to night sights then. I know Col Askin's carry New Service with the Border Patrol, that used to be in the Bianchi Museum in Temecula, and now at the Autry Museum in LA had the full house job. Super

I did some testing in a dimly lit room and these sights do in fact show up much better than standard sights.Do they show up in pitch black like Todays Night Sights? Nope
