Auto-Ordnance Question
Seeing the nice post about the semi-auto Thompsons brings to mind a question I have about the Auto-Ordnance M1 Carbine.
I have read much online about their poor quality control, etc. Many bad things about their .45s and .38 Supers, too.
But I have seen .45s. and .38 Supers of theirs that ran great and had no problems.
To buy a surplus one is totally out of the question.
To keep it simple, has anyone had a good experience with the Carbine? I want one for my own nefarious purposes. I am hopeful that they have cleaned up their act.

A buddy of mine bought one about a year ago, it was a jamomatic. I think he sent it back but sold it soon after.
For the prices they're asking, I'd shell out the extra $$$ and get a USGI and call it a day.

A decent USGI M1 carbine can still be had in the $600 to $1000 range. with some shopping around. For that price you'll get an arsenal rebuilt one usually in good shooting condition. When it's all said in done you'll still have a carbine with some collectors value that you can actually use.
You won't get this with one of the clones.

I had a AO M1 Carbine. The magazine it came with was junk, the operating spring was too weak, the barrel band was a cheap piece of spot-welded junk, the stock was poorly fitted, and accuracy was poor. I had read that it was modeled on a USGI Saginaw carbine and would take USGI parts, but that turned out not to be entirely true. I got rid of it and picked up an Inland carbine for about $600 and have had zero problems of any kind with it. Granted, my AO carbine was only a sample size of one, but I can tell you I won't be buying another.

In 2005 I purchased a brand new Kahr Auto-Ordnance US Army WW2 1911a1 in park finish in 45acp. It's the very first 1911 that's brand new to cycle flawlessly right out of the box. I shot the fmj 45acp ball ammo. It flawless for over 500+++ rounds now. I wish I purchased two. I wanted an older war vet 1911 but the rising costs of them made me look for a 1911 ww1/WW2 clone. The new AO US ARMY is suppose to be the closest clone there is to the ww1/ww2 1911. She runs the ball ammo flawlessly.
I read the gun rag report on it with there gun test. My test went better than the gun rags test did.
There was two different AO companies. The first one was hit and miss. Kahr seems to been upgrading the quality. Don't judge the new Kahr buy the old company.

All information is appreciated.
My worry is that I unknowingly get a collectible GI model and destroy collector value.
I shall look into surplus.
Thanks

Mine was made after Kahr acquired AO. I was really disappointed in it, especially since my Kahr K9 is such a nice little pistol.
