Default I walked the walk of shame yesterday...

The walk of shame came yesterday, when I walked out of Ali-Babba's House O Guns, with a black plastic case, containing a police trade in (gulp)...Gl...Glo...GLOCK!

There I said it.

It's my wife's fault. She had one several years ago, and I think the poison got into her system then. Apparently like radiation poisoning, you don't get rid of it. It just settles in your system, comes back years later.

So we/she now own a Glock 17, don't ask me which generation, I have no idea, that I suppose is in pretty good shape for a Glock. It's not much uglier than a new Glock anyway. It came with three magazines, the tupperware box, a lock, and whatever papers come with one.

I would take a picture of it, but you see one Glock, you've pretty much seen them all.

Congrats on your newest!

I liked the only two Glocks I've owned quite well. Wish I still had the second-generation 19.

I'm a revolver guy, and Glocks sure don't have the charm and grace of a K- or J-frame. But I'm not on any self-flagellation trip about liking them.

Glock is an excellent tool, I owned one for 3 months not long ago.
My experience, 600 rounds 4 different ammo mfgs, not one issue. Fun but not a pistol for me.

Embrace it, those of us who have a wife who like guns are truly blessed!

I did the same thing at a gun show back in December and I'm so ashamed. Accidentally snuck up on a "deal" on a second generation Glock 17.

First Glock to be had here. Shot fine. Easy to make hits with it. Has been reliable on two outings.

Have always loathed Glock immensely: the trigger design, the plastic, the appearance. This one hasn't converted me at all. I only got it so I could better understand why I don't have any use for them ... and I do understand better. Glocks are as hideously ugly as Hi-Points to my mind and leave me with the impression that they're about as cheapo constructed. It'll be worthwhile trading fodder later.

I'm grateful I'm not required to carry and shoot anything Glock.

A Glock is just a Glock.
But a S&W revolver is a smokin gun!

Yea, I know, a play on a woman is just a woman, but a good cigar is a smoke....

In before the "Glocks do not support the 40 case properly" replies begin.

Shot a Glock 23 once. Nasty flippy thing in 40. The 17 is much nicer to shoot but a Steyr M9 has it whipped in the trigger department.

Seriously, I know there is nothing wrong with a Glock. It's just not something I normally even look at, much less buy. Even at the gun store I had to wave a flag to get an employee to get one out of the case. YOU want to see a Glock? Which one?

Now I'm looking into a display case with about a dozen G-17's and another shelf with I guess they're G-23's (in 40) on it. It's like looking at a sheet of cookies coming out of the oven. Who cares? They're all alike.

So he picks out one he says is better looking than the others. I can't tell, but he says it is, I'll take his word for it. We go over the table where they do the paperwork and the girl back there looks at me, "Hi Mr. CB...what today?....what is THAT? YOU'RE getting a Glock?" I hung my head.

She checked my ID twice to make sure it was me.

I've never owned a Glock before, but I did shoot the one she had before a couple of times. It shot fine I must admit. I don't think it ever malfunctioned. I must also admit that she gave it up as trade bait when I ran into a fellow who had a 4" Model 29-2, in near perfect shape, with the original target grips, and two boxes of ammo, he wanted to trade for a G-19. This is just replacing that one.

She's got some medical issues now, so she won't be carrying it, or anything else now, but she still enjoys going to the range and shooting.

Kinda like Shields or those Springfield X-Whatever things, huh?

Seriously, though, your "sheet of cookies" analogy is appropriate and correct, and it applies to pretty much all of the polymer-framed pistols. These are mass produced pistols. Thousands of plastic pistols roll off assembly lines every day. That's why they're so inexpensive. There isn't going to be a hair's worth of difference between your Glock so-and-so and my Glock so-and-so. No one at Glock, S&W, or Springfield is going to stop the line and take a few extra minutes to hand polish the chamber or ejection port on your new little pistol. If you believe they do, then maybe the S&W Fairy Godmother will leave you a new Shield under your pillow tonight.

As long as you have been married I would have thought you would have learned by now. All you had to do was tell her the Glock was the one you decided was best for her and she immediately would have picked a S&W, or anything but that Glock. But we'll give you a mulligan on this one.

Great, just great, now the cost of milk plastic jugs just went up.

And Glock invented concealed carry, it was the only way to sneak them out of the gun shop and in to the home so friends wouldn't see them.

I have posted previously and stand by my statement. A Glock sidearm is a very reliable tool. It does not have a soul.

My 4506 and my M&P 45 do.

I carried a model 21C and never had a problem with it, but as soon as the M&P become available in 45 I obtained one.

Folks may think I am silly but there is a difference I can feel.

How's one polymer striker fired gun have a soul and the other doesn't. Just curious how that's judged! And for that matter any of them

If I want soul I'll listen to Marvin Gaye.

To protect my soul on a nice evening walking the dog.... a plastic 45 works just fine.

There are polymers and there are polymers....

I just sold my Glock 19. The last Glock in the stable. I always kept it as a frame of reference. It is the polymer striker that all other guns are judged by. I just did not shoot it that often and I had an urge for something with a soul... LOL

A Sphinx SDP Alpha. Swiss made with Swiss Precision. The steel slide is machined from billet which is then hand fitted. This is not a run it down the line as fast as you can production style pistol. Kind of opposite of the Glock. It has internal full length guide rails riding on a billet aluminum upper frame. They uses a 2 piece frame. The lower portion of the frame is polymer with interchangeable back-straps to adjust length and width of the grip.

That to me is a polymer framed gun with a soul!!!!

That said you cannot knock the Glock IMHO. Everyone I have ever owned ran like it should, was combat accurate and never failed me. I have owned many and I am sure one day I will make that walk of shame again!

No, I don't think they do. Even when they were new, there were subtle differences in the blue, and in the wood. Or at least I told myself there were. When buying used, like I usually do, each one has a different wear pattern to them.

I seriously don't think a Glock is any "uglier" than I do any other plastic semi-auto. I think they're all ugly. At least compared to a Model 19 or 15. Maybe "ugly" isn't the right word. I wouldn't call a hammer "ugly" just for being a hammer. A Glock is just a Glock.

However, the Glock did work just fine. My wife shot it yesterday, as did I. The world didn't end. It worked flawlessly, which I frankly expected it to do. It put the bullets right where I expected them to go.

I don't own a Glock. I've never liked them well enough to consider getting one. Talk about one un-attractive pistol!

However, every time I shoot my friend's Glock 23, I find myself thinking, "Why don't I have one of these yet?"

My experience with Glock is limited at best, but I've found them to be accurate and extremely reliable. A tool that does its job well.

However, the Glock did work just fine. My wife shot it yesterday, as did I. The world didn't end. It worked flawlessly, which I frankly expected it to do. It put the bullets right where I expected them to go.
I hope that you washed your hands thoroughly after holding and shooting that new toy.

I'm joking, of course. I like the Glock line and don't consider them ugly. Combat Tupperware is a mainstay for me in my carry rotation (along with my 642). I may be about done with buying polymer guns. I have all the bases covered and now want to look at more "old school" steel and wood handguns for future purchases. Smith revolvers and 1911s are my favorites to shoot.

Default Once upon a time, I had no use for them either

In November 2010 I bought a unused LE Glock 31 because it was the least expensive gun I could find in .357 Sig. I added night sights in February 2011 and it was stolen in a home burglary about two weeks later. I got it back last Wednesday.

I bought my fourteenth Glock yesterday, a gen. II Glock 17 in VGC. Twelve of those have been purchased or transferred through the same LGS. I sold two of those guns, my son has four, I have eight. Unless I find a dirt cheap Glock 29, I am done.

I live close to Glock, Inc. in Smyrna, GA and take the guns in for service and sights. I put steel sights or Glock brand night sights on all my guns, and grip cavity plugs in them. Those are the only mods I do.

Glocks work. Had one of my S&W's been held in LE custody for four years, one month, and sixteen days I would of been even more upset than I was over the Glock.

I still have way more S&W handguns than anything else.

Hello. My name is Krogen and I'm a ..., a ..., a plastic gun owner. After years of wood and steel, I succumbed to temptation. I rationalized that I had to try plastic guns. While falling from high, I decided I'd try that new-fangled 40 S&W too. A double tap, so to speak. Adding insult to injury I bought a Ruger SR40. A Ruger? OK, a triple tap.

The thing works. It's fun to shoot, reliable, accurate. But it just doesn't thrill me. The frame reminds me of a squirt gun with paperclips and ballpoint pen springs inside. At least the barrel and slide are metal.

So, I get the plastic gun thing. I don't embrace it; I just understand now. When I run out of 40 S&W ammo, I'll probably send it down the road to the next unsuspecting victim. I've had my dalliance. I think I'll go find another vintage S&W revolver to atone for my transgressions.

Tell you boys what, I love my S&W revolvers but there's nothing wrong with my Gen 2 Glock 19 as carry gun. It has a steel front sight and Glock 17L mag release button and connector. Not much wrong with its trigger either. You want a better Glock trigger gents, try installing the 17L connector.

High polish blue and wood sure is pretty.

But ya know what they say.... Times have changed.

The admire & fondle aspect of a handgun was a very significant factor prior to Shall Issue sweeping the country over the past 30 years. Looking pretty in the safe was very important cuz that's what it did best, that and being transported empty in the trunk of a car to the range. But Shall Issue ruined everything. With tens of millions lawfully carrying, the utility aspect of a handgun now often overrides shiny bobble considerations.. Gone are the days when new guns weren't shot to keep them pretty... when guns were guns!

Take 2 aspirins, and go shooting in the morning.

The "Glocks have no soul" things always cracks me up. I'm sure 100 years ago guys were saying the same thing about the early 1911s we fawn over now.

Whatever soul a gun has comes from its user. I've carried my trusty little 27 for almost 20 years now, as both an off duty gun and as a backup to my soul-full wood and metal Sig. We've had some adventures together for sure. Once my NOPD partner and I were looking for a fugitive from Michigan who had shot somebody there and was supposed to be hiding out with relatives in New Orleans. We had ridden by an address and not seen any signs of life. We ate lunch and since it was hot I had locked my Sig in the trunk of the car, which is exactly where it was when I decided to roll past the house one more time.

Sure enough, he was on the porch enjoying a cold tall boy. He wasn't from New Orleans, but he knew what a white guy and a black guy in an unmarked Taurus SHO meant. We shared a nice moment with my Glock pointed between his high beams while his hand hovered over a folded newspaper with a .44 Special underneath. It all worked out fine, without loud noises or mournful wails.

Your plastic gun may not have soul, but mine does.

Shot a Glock 23 once. Nasty flippy thing in 40. The 17 is much nicer to shoot but a Steyr M9 has it whipped in the trigger department.
Odd how a search for aftermarket trigger mods won't turn up anyone bothering to try for the Steyr A1' series huh?

Exactly!!
Seven for me with my 8th (a Glock 30 .45) being my issued gun. They ,arguably , might have equals. But, there are NONE better for their intended purpose.

I've owned 3 different Glocks. Happy to say I'm now reformed. If it's not made of steel by Smith and Wesson, I'll no longer give it a second look.

I've owned 4 Glocks. In order of purchase; 37, 21, 30, 32.

I sold all of them as they had collected dust, never fired in 5+ years. Just not my cup of tea.

My only real Glock desire is for a 17 or 19. Those stick mags look like fun.

Default Yeah, funny.

We are all guilty of shameful things. I lust after a Kimber .45, and another Remington 870.
And, and.....the list never ends.

Default I walked the walk of shame yesterday...

Look at the bright side, it didn't involve farm animals and kitchen appliances.

You my friend are one of the luckiest men on this forum. If my wife liked guns and shooting I would by anyone she wanted and learn to like it.

She likes convertibles so I bought a Sebring Convertible and like it, she likes Hot Rods so I bought a '49 Chevy Street Rod and like it. She does not like guns but let me buy a few but I still wish she would like and shoot them.
