Default Indian Arms .380 update

I met the owner of a local gun store owner that cut his teeth working with a gunsmith. I showed him the broken safety, actually part of the broken safety on my Indian Arms .380. I thought I lost half of it. He took it apart within a blink and removed the rest of it that was hung up in the pistol. As soon as he looked at it he determined that a Walther PPK/S looked almost identical. Rather than purchasing one new and then not being able to return it he found one on line for $30. He got it in and with a very slight tweak to shorten its overall length he put it together and it works great. for a total of $60 I now have pistol I can use for target practice other than a paper weight. So for any of you that have an Indian Arms that have a broken safety you can use a Walther to fit the bill.

Thank you, as an Indian owner I have heard some but not all parts are "sort of" interchangeable!

I will add this to my own personal note book of things to know!

The safety is actually blued. I was thinking of getting another SS but it looks kind of retro, the price was right, is milled and not cast and above all it works.

Great job! Glad there was a shop able to help!
Every town/area needs to have a man like that and a local gun shop to go along with it. Ordering off the web is nice, but if you have a local place, where you can walk into , ask questions , buy stuff and talk to people who know things, then try to give them all the business you can. We have two places in my area, I always try to buy from them first. These places are so helpful to new guys....and you don't realize how valuable they are until they are gone.
Fixing older guns and mounting of sights and such are just things that are hard to accomplish through the mail...I guess I just value these old fashioned gun shops.
Gary

Gary you are so right. They spend time with you and really enjoy what they do. We had a small Hardware/lumber store in town and I always went there rather than any of the two big box stores right down the street. Unfortunately they closed their doors after 60+ years. Boy do I miss that place.

Welcome to the forum!

NYlakesider is still very active on the forum, but most likely never going to see your request this way.

Go to the post he made and click on his name, a menu will drop down. Select the Personal Message (PM) option, and send him a PM. He will be notified of that message the next time he signs in.

Thanks Ivan for helping out a new member. I received his PM and replied but doubt that I was able to help him. Not many guns made so parts if needed are scarce.

Default Pistols having a de-cocker recommendation

Just a suggestion for all pistols that have a safety/de-cocker. When you lower the hammer do it by holding the hammer with your thumb, pull the trigger and gently lower the hammer, just like pistols without a de-cocker. Habitually using the de-cocker to drop the hammer will frequently result in a broken safety eventually! Not saying this is why yours broke, but it is likely.
