Default Knife repair question

I bent the pocket clip on my Benchmade. Has anyone tried simply removing and trying to bend back to tension in a vise or should I just get a new clip? I am sure Benchmade would simply put a new one on free of charge or send me one at little cost. I just don't want to take a chance on losing it from not "tensioning" correctly.

I had the same thing happen to me.....clip caught on something and got all bent up. I removed the three screws and bend the top of the clip back. It is actually a bit tighter than it was before, no problem

Good luck with your fix.

I broke mine clean off. It sat in my sock drawer for a few years because I didn't know what to do. Thought I ruined a good Benchmade.

I emailed them and explained that the breakage was my fault and asked what it would cost to repair it. They had me send it to them with a check for $5 for return shipping. They replaced the clip and sharpened the knife.

Had it back in a week.

If you call there customer service Monday by Friday you will have your new clip. Be sure to ask for a extra clip and screws. They will ship it all to you for free. You will need a Trox bit to change it out. If you choose to mail your knife back it will take six weeks to get it back, but it will be like new after you get it back. I own many benchmade knives and have ask for free pocket clips for all of them and have never paid a nickel. Benchmades customer service is top notch.

I bend pocket clips all the time, I don't even bother remove them anymore to bend them back. I just put a flat blade screwdriver up near the bend by the screws, pry out a little bit and bend the end back down to the knife, easy peasy.

When you remove and replace the screws, use a bit of blue Loctite in the holes. The new screws won't back out, and you can always remove them without too much effort.

Thank you all so much for your help! I have been a Zero Tolerance fan for quite some time, but to be truthful, I have read so many good things about Benchmade from Marshweeling and others here, I got the Benchmade 890 Torrent Steigerwalt which clip I bent. It is the perfect cross between the big, pry-bar ZT knives I have carried and the Kershaw Leek gentleman's knives I have. I can't count the number of times I have carried the Benchmade in a suit and tie and not realized it, when normally an all stainless Leek would be the choice.

The law-enforcement members here will probably appreciate this, but the Torrent has a "glass-breaker" at the end too--never had a knife with this, or the need of it. I am a desk/court bound attorney. I will be damned if on a Saturday we had stopped by Target for something, and a young woman had accidently locked her infant in the back seat. She had a spare fob in her purse but it would not work, with keys/fob in ignition.

I told her "lets call police or dealership with Fob Code, they can get new one asap." She was freaking out, asked me to break front window. The glass breaking tip did it like cutting through butter. She got her keys and baby lickety split and even gave me a kiss on the cheek (and she was pretty young woman) and I am grey, overweight and not very kissable.

We have used the Torrent to breast out all the ducks we killed this season, skined out a fox and breasted/cleaned a big Jake. Plus it's pretty much been my EDC. Great, thinner blade for skinning/cleaning verses a ZT folder.

If you will excuse an extravagance, I liked my Benchmade so much I bought one of their Bushcrafter fixed blades. Amazingly beautiful work of knifemaking art. Have not carried/used yet it's so beautiful.

Excuse long post.

Ps. Only thing I don't like about Torret is if you drop it, the "Nitrous" assist springs in open. It will also partially close, you need to make sure you have it completely closed before you put it in your pocket.

Frank--a "striker" or fire steel. You flip Bushcrater over and use the spine to strike the fire steel to cause sparks to make a fire on your tinder. I am too old and lazy to do that, I just go back to cabin and fireplace, hence mine is empty. Sort of like "batoning" wood--I just use an axe or hatchet (if you want the truth a Sthil 18 in chain saw back in the jeep!).

I must be the last guy on the planet who doesn't like those clips, the first thing I do is to remove them.

Must be my complete lack of tacticality

That Bushcrafter is a gorgeous knife. I just bought the Condor Bushlore, so I don't need it*, but I would buy it just to look at it.

*To be truthful, I don't really need the Bushlore either, but I wanted it; reason enough, and reason enough to buy the Benchmade, too.
