The 6.5x55 Swede is my favorite caliber. It will handle anything in North America with the right bullet. It's a very simple job to open up the bolt face a bit for the slightly larger diameter base. Or re-form .30-06 or .270 brass. I have done that for over 50 years, and yes it can be done with no problem. I currently have 4 rifles in that caliber, and even shot bench rest in a custom rifle for awhile. Half-inch 5-shot groups or better at 100 yards were no problem. And all the prattle about proper bore twist sensitivity has been written by someone who knows nothing about the 6.5x55. An 8" twist will handle every bullet from 80 grains to 160 grains magnificently. My best shooting has always been with 120-130 grain bullets.

Count me in for the .257 Roberts... I've had one since the '80s and with 115-120 grain bullets its an awesome deer-sized caliber. Light recoil and plenty of power, my 2 pennies worth.
