nice...an appropriate tribute. I'm glad you intend to continue shooting this pistol. Never understood owners of engraved handguns that refuse to shoot them.

I thought, from the title, that they gave you a 1911 as a retirement present. Thinking, "Damn, I worked in the wrong place."

Gorgeous work! Nice to hear you're going to keep carrying and shooting it! I've got a stainless Gunsite model that I carried for years and has some "wear"...seeing your pistol is giving me ideas.
Congratulations on retirement!

I'm not usually one for engraved firearms, but that's some nice work right there!

You carry that on the job? I would be afraid to shoot anyone with that beauty! The thought of it sitting in impound pending any court action would have me terrified!

Engraved guns aren't my thing, never have been.
BUT,,,,
That baby is beautiful. It's an engraved gun that looks like it DOESN'T need to be relegated to safe queen status.
It came out excellent.
Love it!

Thomas:
I'm really digging on that 1911. I love the badge and the crossed swords. Thought I'd send it to the top for another run. Do you happen to have photos without the photobucket watermark?
Thanks,

If you click on them they'll open in a new window without the watermark.

Just had the dumbest thought. I retired my stainless Officers ACP from EDC, thinking I should send it out to be engraved to disguise the dork scratch I put on it years ago

Bingo!
Isn't the Photobucket watermark what they refer to as a "clue"?

Thanks for reviving my old pre-retirement 1911 thread Richard, and the positive comments from everybody. I think it was the beautifully engraved S&W's you've shared over the years that planted the seed to have this done. I've been retired for 5 1/2 years (that went by quick) and have been enjoying myself entirely. Moved away from the dry, overcrowded Phoenix area. Now enjoying retired life around all the green trees, mountains and lakes of SC. I even bought a small fishing boat, because that's what retired cops do. Thanks again y'all.

Retired as captain of the city hall security detail 3 years ago due to my late wife's deteriorating health. My last week on the job I carried my personal former issue S&W Model 65-1 instead of my issued 686-6. All my officers carried Glock 22s & scoffed at my "six-shooter." They stopped after none of them could match my qualification scores & times for the 7 years I was there. I had to turn in the 686-6, even though mine was the last one in use and couldn't sell it to me. But I still have my previously issued Model 65-1 (pinned & recessed) that I might get scatched up for BBQs
and such. I still carry it when traveling along with my EDC snub-nosed .38. Had to replace the non-original grips with reproductions and a grip adapter; front sight is painted with "Traffic Cone" fluorescent orange fingernail polish.
Sent with some arcane communications device.
