When you have to bring a knife to a gunfight.......

Picked this toothpick up at a very small gun show that was in town. Not much in the way of firearms but this knife maker produces some pretty cool knives. Ram horn handle with Damascus style steel.

Not mine, but it looks like a pinfire so i'd guess that it is very deadly

I don't ever want to bring a knife to a gunfight. I don't even want to bring a knife to a knife fight. That's still a pretty nice knife.

I really like big Bowie types but they are hard to carry or use in practical situations.

Shown here with a Model 34-1 (for scale),a carved Lawrence and my toes (  ) is a BIG Bowie with a 12" Damascus blade and giraffe bone and wood (the type slips my mind right now) handle.

My biggest knife was a Cold Steel Stag handled Bowie....the only useful purpose I could find for it was........ to hang on my home office wall with my 1887 Model 1885 Winchester high wall.........
When "the boys" came along I flipped it for a Recon Scout and a SRK
But they are cooool and fun to own!

I don't even want to bring a gun to a knife-fight. Some fella... thinkin' he's invincible... could force ya to pull on him. Unless ya kill him... it could cost ya dearly in $$'s.
I knew a fella oncest... that because he was within 12 or 15 feet of another guy... thought he could knife-cut that other guy before that guy could draw and pull a trigger. And that other guy was just mindin' his own bidness shootin' pool. Knife guy was quick... 'cause that pool-shooter didn't get his gun up high enough for a center-shot... but he got it high enough. Created a whole new anal orifice on knife fella.
That is a good-lookin' knife in that pic... wished I had it.

It was none other than Jim Bowie himself who bought a knife to several gunfights and won all of them.
The sandbar fight was a particularly epic display of bad-assery, wherein Bowie was shot, pistol whipped, and stabbed in the sternum with a swordcane before he killed at least one of his assailants and then proceeded to chase the other one with what witnesses later said was 'Bowies big butcher knife'.
A large blade at close quarters is a VERY effective tool.

These are my "assault" knives.
They were just big, fancy MRE openers. These days they mostly sit in a box. None are all too special. That big tanto blade is the priciest of the bunch, but they didn't sell well so production was moved to China to lower prices which really killed the value of the real ones.

I would request the M7 bayonet or Ka-Bar from the armory on occasion. I always got weird looks, but I figured I should carry a realistic combat load. They were always in terrible shape so I bought my own. The M7 was found like new at a surplus store cheap. The Ka-Bars and survival knife were found in the PX's. They are interesting, practical knives that have been around a long time. I like stuff like that.

I like the 5 inch Ka-Bar... as my go to fixed blade utility knife.....big enough....sharp enough..... but not all Rambo..........
