Finally got my first AR.
Well I finally did it. Everyone should have at least one AR and after putting it off for ever I finally picked one up. I found a Bushmaster for sale locally and it seemed like a good deal so I jumped on it.
I do have a S&W M&P 15-22, but I don't really count that as an AR since it's .22lr.
Anyway here she is:

I still regret the day I sold the AR I had. It was an Armalite lower and Bushmaster flat top upper. Trijicon ACOG reflex sight......excuse me while I cry for a bit.
Someday I'll have another.

Very nice and congrats! Now the real fun begins. They don't call ARs the Barbie Doll for men for nothing, it's all about the accssories!

Bought a Del-Ton M4 last week. A fair copy of the M4 I carried in Afghanistan.

Thanks. No accessories going on this one. I did change out the grip because the stock grip is too small for my hands. I also ordered a new trigger guard. I'll probably get a metal 30 round mag to finish off the look but that's it.
I plan on picking up a couple of stripped lowers next week. That way if I get the urge to get anything for it I'll just put it toward the build instead.

Thank you. I can't wait to get out to the range with it. It's a Windham.

I also have a "Banned" Bushmaster, No lug or flash hider. Out of the box with a 4.5 x 14 scope would consistently shoot 3/8" groups at 100 with Winchester 55 grain white box. Mine has been threaded so I can use a noise suppressor. I have Black Hills 50 grain V-Max that shoots less than 1/2" groups at 234 yards with the suppressor! These guns were capable of very good accuracy if someone didn't damage the barrel buy imitating a machine gun! ( or poor cleaning practices!)

I finally got out to the range yesterday to test out the rifle. It was fine for about 30 rounds, then it started to jam. Turns out the ejector was stuck. Luckily I was able to disassemble the BCG and managed to finally free the ejector. What I found was a bunch of tiny brass shavings in the channel with the spring and pin. Once I got that cleaned up and back together, she ran like a champ for another 120 rounds.
At 100 yards with iron sights I was able to put every shot into a 1' wide silhouette. (Which I thought was pretty good considering the front sight was the same width as the target.)
In any case, it performed very well over all (besides the hick-up with the ejector.) I may mount a scope on it the next time and test the accuracy but, for now I'm satisfied that I got a good deal.

Glad that everything ended up working out. As popular as the 16" bbl ARs are (and rightfully so), I've always had fondness for the 20" full-size.

It's best if the front sight appears to be the width of the target. The aiming black rings for over-the-course matches are 13" at 200 yds, 19" at 300 yds and 36" at 600 yds for that reason. Most competitors use a six o'clock hold, but some hold dead on. With practice you should get down to three inch groups or better at 100 yds. The 15-22 will be good for that.
Congrats on the new rifle. From the photos it looks like a detachable carry handle, so you could mount an optic and switch back and forth quickly and have little or no deviation from zero.

You're going to buy some stripped lowers soon...someone called this one a barbie for men...the stripped lowers are the start of the adult lego set.
I built one and then my wife built one. I'm trying to decide on if I want to build a pistol or go with a long barrel next...or do an ar 10...decisions decisions decisions...

That does look like a detachable carry handle, but if it's not, I've got a scope mount for a "non".
Nice score, welcome to the addiction.

Me too, I specifically wanted something with a classic look. Everyone I know buys an AR and then tears it apart and changes everything. I figured I would get a nice basic rifle and leave it as-is and then build myself a custom rifle exactly as I want it.

Thanks for the info. It's currently set up for a 6 o'clock hold. I shoot Standard Pistol matches but don't get out to the rifle range too often. Yes, it has a detachable carry handle.
I bought the M&P 15-22 a while back because I can shoot it at my indoor club. I need to pull it out more often and get some trigger time on it.

Yes, yes I am. I actually stopped at a shop on the way home from the range for one but all they had was Bushmaster lowers. I figured I already have one of them so I want to get something different. I'll check my local shop tomorrow.

I've got three, plus a S&W 15-22. An original Colt AR15-A2 carbine, a new DPMS Oracle in .223-5.56 mm, and another new DPMS LR-308 in .308. Don't think I need another.

I just came across this old thread and figured I'd give an update.
I did pick up a few lowers shortly after buying this AR. I finished one, the other build has been stalled while I acquired a few new handguns.
Here is the one I finished. I also added a Nikon P-223 1.5-4.5x.
