Taurus Tracker 45 ACP.. Thoughts?
I had a Taurus 44 mag Ultra light. It was ok except split casesand rear sight had "play" in it. Saw 2 Taurus Tracker 4 in revolvers in 45 ACP. One fixed sights the other adjustable. Thoughts?

I'm not thrilled with Taurus' quality, as they let more "lemons" slip past the inspector's eye than they should. In a .44 Magnum case, this would be quite dangerous. With a moderate pressure cartridge such as the .45 ACP/.45 Auto Rim cartridge, split cases are an indication of oversized chambers. I would consider this unacceptable.
But that's just me.

You had one suspect Taurus and are even considering another? Good luck.

Seriously, why get a Taurus as opposed to a S & W 1917, Colt 1917, or a S & W 25? MUCH better guns!

My model 455 Taurus, 5 shot 45 acp, 2 inch, ported barrel with fixed sights has nice tight cylinder and throat dimensions. I have to size my cast bullets .451 because .452 sized loaded rounds will not fully seat, and have to be pressed fully in. .451 jacketed bullets are not a problem. Because of the close tolerances ( barrel sizes .451) the little rascal is a tack driver. I shoot better groups with it than my 1911 AMT Hardballer with target sights.
45 cal power in a small package, accurate as can be, carries easy......This ones not getting away from me and I would buy a 4 inch model with adjustable sights if I find one and have some extra bucks...I like em!
I ordered a bunch of moon clips from Taurus after getting the gun.

Take a look at a Kahr CT45 . Can be picked up for around 340 bucks street price and will run reliably on check-mate 1911 mag to make it a 8+1 and some others . I used some cmc mags I had with some minor tuning . All 1911 mags are not the same !! This is an easy to shot well pistol .

Wait. You actually have personal experience with this gun?
How dare you interrupt a taurus bashing thread.

I'm a sucker for big bore snub nosed revolvers and at the time S&W didn't have anything as small as the 455, or any revolver in 45 acp I could easily conceal and afford . so I ordered one and was pleasantly surprised with it. I try not to listen too much to others bad mouthing's and like to give every dog his day. Sometimes things just aren't what the rumors are.
I have had a Taurus PT92AF prior to the 455 for years and didn't/don't have a single bad thing to say about it, great shooter. So I didn't hesitate to buy the 455. Of course I'm the kind of person that drives an old Chevy and don't have to have no BMW, Mercedes-Benz or Lexus to impress folks with a name brand.....but that's just me. You pays your money and makes your choice.

I also own the 2" 455. My experiences have been similar to that of gwpercle.
To eliminate the need for clips, I reload using 45 Cowboy brass using .451 diameter bullets. Like gwpercle mentioned the .452 bullets don't work.
I don't consider myself a Taurus fan; nor do I own any other Taurus products. I purchased the 455 because S&W did not offer anything like it. I don't like the ported barrel, but appreciate the lighter weight and "ribber" grips, which reduce the recoil and and are a decent fit for my relatively small hands. It is easy to shoot and the sights well regulated.
The one mildly negative experience I had with Taurus involved replacement of a broken firing pin spring. I requested Taurus sell me a few springs so I could fix my problem. Taurus refused and insisted I send the 455 back for repair. It cost me $50 to ship; they fixed it and picked up the cost to send it back.
I have no plans to buy another Taurus, but am satisfied with this one. I guess if they had something else that interested me, I might take a chance on another purchase.
