I'm a Sucker for a "Cheap" Gun.
I was at Ali-Babba's the other day, and they didn't have any nice revolvers I was interested in so, on the way out I glanced into the semi-auto case, and saw a $279.00 price tag. Well, it's been a long time since I saw a price tag under $400.00, much less one for less than $300.00.
I asked to see whatever it was attached to, and it turned out to be a Ruger P95DC. I'm not a semi guy, I thought I remembered they had a pretty good reputation for being big and ugly, but reliable and decent shooters.
I offered $250.00 and to my surprise they took my offer. So now I had to put up, and the Ruger followed me home. I took it to the range a couple of days later, and fired about 75 rounds of my 115 grain reloads through it. No problems at all. The sights, which I'd heard weren't the best were adequate for the seven yard range, and seemed to be dead on at that distance. A drop of orange nail polish on the front, and a couple of drops of white on the rear helped them.
The trigger was nothing to write home about, but it was usable. The magazine only holds ten rounds, which is fine for me for a range toy.

If I ever see a P95 at anywhere NEAR that price I would buy it in a heartbeat. Nice score!

Ruger P Series
SMART BUY The Ruger "P" series, sadly no longer made, is in many hand gun nuts opinions, the best "bang-for-the-buck" semi-auto ever made. Several years ago I gave my son my P95 that bounced around in my Jeep for years. How many thousands of rounds I have no idea. I may have even cleaned it once. And now it bounces around in a pick-up with many more rounds through it. Oh yeah, my son did say he cleaned it once after it fell in a stock tank

They are great pistols, especially for the price. It shouldn't be too hard to find some 15 round mags, mec-gar makes a flush fit 17 round magazine for them that everyone says works well also.

A couple of years ago, I picked up a P94 for about the same price. I believe it was a Puerto Rico police turn in. It is homely as a mud fence, has the ergonomics of a brick and is heavier, but if I had to pick one semi auto to go bang with any ammunition under any conditions, this might be the one. I have prettier handguns, but handsome is as handsome does. This one goes bang every time, even after time under the seat of my 87 Chevy pickup.

I have a stainless P-95 DC that I bought new. Mine came with 10 rd
mags also because of the time period it was made. I remember when
they first came out. Shooting Times magazine had been doing 10,000
rd tests of various semi autos and publishing results and pics. So
Ruger decided to do their own endurance test and subjected the P-95
to 20,000 rds of +P+ 9mm ammo if I remember correctly, with no
problems. Many Ruger fans consider the P-95 to be the best gun of
the P series Rugers. $250 is cheap for one as they usually bring a
higher price on GB.

My Son-In-Law has one, and one day at the range I shot a few rounds through it and was impressed by the smooth trigger, minimal recoil, and accuracy. Not much to look at but a really rugged reliable handgun.

Nice pickup for a nice price.
Big and clunky, maybe - reliable, most definitely.

I've never looked at these pistols but for that price and what I've read here it sounds like you got a smoking deal.

That's about avg price for them here. I almost never see a used one for over $300 unless they come with a ton of mags. They usually hover around $220 - $285

Towards the latter part of their production life, the P95 competed with the Sigma on price. I remember them being $299, the same as a Sigma at the time.
A friend of mine has one, and also a 9mm Sigma. I have a P89DC myself.
Ruger still offers 15rd mags, as does Mecgar and ProMag. The latter two, and National also offer even higher capacity magazines.
I prefer the metal frame Ruger that I have to the plastic one my friend has when shot side by side. Though the plastic Ruger still works well enough and is equal to a Sigma.

I'm a sucker for a "cheaper" gun once in awhile myself. My Kel-Tec P32 and Charter Arms Bulldog come to mind. Wouldn't go into combat with either but for the $ they're fun little guns. Congrats on your Ruger!

I saw a cop at the Denver Airport carrying one a couple of days ago. That's an all business gun. Congrats.

Had a P94DC myself. Got it for $275 with two 15-round mags and a holster. Like Gatorfarmer I liked the all metal frame.
Like most Rugers they aren't a very svelte or elegant weapon, but they are as overbuilt as a tank and are very reliable.
Overall an excellent value for the money IMO.

One of the nice things about the P-95DC is that the slide is relatively easy to rack - the springs seem "soft" compared to most auto pistols. With the thick slide and the extra purchase from the ambidextrous decocking levers it is a nice gun for those who have a hard time racking other guns.

You know Tom, I had never thought about it until I read your comment, but you're right. It is easy to "rack."

I read somewhere online, so it must be true(!), the P series made by Ruger was originally intended to get the military contract. As we know now, this did not work out.
I saw a P89 for sale at a local shop for $179. It was literally beat to hell, and missing the magazine. Fondled it at least 20 times, and by right, the salesman should have charged me for playing with it for so long. But I had to walk away.

No thanks Colby. 'Preciate the offer, but I get in enough trouble going into ONE gun store up here. I believe they have a box full of "stuff" in the back they keep just for me.."Save this...that sucker will buy it"...they put one out, I buy it, they go get another one the next day. I come in a couple of days later...."OH...bright shiny thing"...

Mags are cheap. I'd have offered them $150 OTD and if they bit it'd have come home with me. I can always use another cheap solid reliable DA/SA truck gun. You just can't have too many of those...

I bought mine about 13 or 14 years ago. At the time I was considering a CZ but decided I liked the Ruger better. I thought the Ruger had a better trigger.
The P95 is not as big and heavy as people like to say. Take out some calipers and place it on a scale and find out the truth for yourself. What has been said is true, the slide racks easily and the slide stop is also easy to use. The grip does get slippery with sweaty hands and I had to put some stair tread tape on the front and back of the grip.
MecGar makes a nickel plated mag that I like to use as my standard mag. It is only 15 rounds and I have other MecGar steel mags with 17 round capacity.
My P95 has the stainless slide and I think I paid around $325 for it when I bought it new. I only shoot it once in a while but I am never tempted to sell it.

My first handgun was a P95DC. Great shooting gun. Over the years I bought others for my adult son and son-in-law. They are very reliable guns. I still have mine (among many other brands and models).

They ain't pretty but they are dependable. The P series guns were solid, reliable firearms.
My wife took my P89 years ago. It just plain works.
