Default 1922 Colt Police Positive .38 S&W

Thinking about buying it. Good shape. $325.00. Any ideas on the value? Thanks.
I just realized wrong area to post this. Sorry and please move.

If it looks good and functions OK that's a good price assuming you load your own ammo. Otherwise the 38S&W is not an economical round for shooting.

Unless it's a Police Positive Special, and he probably would have mentioned that, it's just marked .38, and that's identical to .38 S&W, although Colt called it .38 New Police.

A .38 caliber Police Positive will always be chambered in .38 New Police, which is the same physical size as the .38S&W, expect that it has a flat-nose bullet. A Colt Police Positive SPECIAL in .38 caliber will be chambered in .38S&W Special. The Police Positive cylinder is too short to hold a .38 Special cartridge.

Colt had a phobia about stamping S&W on their products. At one time, there was a .38 Colt Special load. It was identical to the .38 S&W Special, but also had a flat point bullet, just like the .38 NP.

Here is a pic of my colts. A 32 on the left, a police positive special in the
middle and a police positive 38,(38s&w) on the right. You can really see
difference in the cylinders.

I have a couple full boxes of the Colt New Police ammo. Flat nose with different markings on the brass.
