Default READ THE MANUAL WELL.

U-tube vids won't hurt. When you remove the grips there should be a pin that fits into the base of the hammer spring, & is easily lost, & may already be gone. A small brad, de-capping pin, or a paper clip in a pinch will work. When removing the trigger assembly there is a pin inside the frame that needs to be depressed at the same time the trigger guard is pulled down & out. A headlamp will shed light & keep your hands free. a blunt wood dowel will work to depress the pin & won't scratch the finish if it slips. As stated beware of flying parts at this step forward. Maybe I was lucky but I learned to live with the trigger as is (not bad at all). I have the snub version & don't need/want too light of a trigger. I'd try it before ordering the spring kit. A good clean/lube may smooth it up considerably. Glad you got it, congrats.

The world has gone mad and that's one reason the demand on good guns is high.

Just to stay on thread I'd buy a security six quick even if it's a beater, just like a model 10

I hardly ever get a REAL deal because I have to buy when I have the money for the same reason. Next week neither the gun nor the money will be there. I'm really lucky if a gun I like comes up at a time I can afford one. I paid $320 for a nearly perfect Shield but by the time I paid shipping and the FFL fee, it wasn't such a great deal.

Your not alone. Fired my bathroom remodeling contractor. Hired a licensed plumber to fix the non plumber who butchered everything. Little things as first. Found out all the water lines needed replacing. There goes my gun purchases for a while. Like till next fall. Well maybe. Every time I save up some mad money something takes it.

I thought about this thread yesterday when I stopped by Ali-Babba's House O Guns, and saw a blue 4", Speed-Six in the case for $300.00. It's "finish challenged" shall we say, but I'm sure some Flitz will make it at least look no worse. Mechanically it's as tight as the day they made it, with a bright, shiny bore, and the original somewhat beat up, grips. I suspect it rode in some security-guards holster, and maybe even got passed from shift to shift.

It had just come in, so I couldn't get them to come off the price at all, but I'm trying to remember the last time I saw even a beat up 357 for $300.00. I also didn't think it would be there long so I got them to stick it on hold for me for a couple of days while I think about it. It will probably go on layaway by Tuesday.

It's all y'all fault. I haven't thought about a Speed/Security-Six in ages really.

Re: Ali-Babba's HOG. You are fortunate. In my area such "finish challenged" revolvers are uncommon. One finds various semi-autos, but the prices are seldom attractive. New revolvers are expensive and used revolvers are ... expensive. In the same case with the Ruger I bought was a nickle 13-2... $699 and a nickle 36 at $499. The 13 was in good condition, the 36 was very worn. Talking to them, they think they will get those prices. Maybe they will. Barnum's law has not been repealed. Sincerely. bruce.

Interesting thread. I am not a Ruger collector, though I do have
a few in my collection. I am more of a S&W collector/accumulator.
One of the Rugers I have is a 4" stainless GP100. Great gun,
and shoots fantastic. I am just not a big fan of the full underlug,
just like with my 686s and 625's.
I always wanted to add a Security Six to my collection, because
I like the way it looks, and because I have heard great things about them.
I was working a gun show in Miami a few months ago, and a
man walked up to my table to look at my holsters. He had a gun
rug in his hand. I asked him what he had. It was a Security Six
4" stainless, with Pachmayrs on it. I asked if he was selling it.
He said yes, and he wanted $300.00 for it. After inspecting it,
(it was in at least 95% + condition, and tight) I paid him.
Now this weekend I was working the same Miami gun show.
Same scenario. The guy sold it to me for $250.00. Just as good
condition as the first one, and this one had the wood service
stocks on it. So now I have a matching pair of Ruger Security
Sixes. Not bragging, but it just goes to show that there are
great deals out there, and when you least expect them they appear.
You just have to be ready for them.

Let me understand: 5 shots from a snub at 100 yds and you call those 2 "flyers??" Buddy, that's a group! Nice shooting!

Thanks! The background story is that when I first got that revolver, an acquaintance said it would only be good within 10 yards or so. We made a small wager and I tried the 100 yard target. I was using progressive "bifocal" glasses, so did initial pointing at the target with the distance part of the lenses, then rolled my head back to the reading part to align sights. I might have gotten a different sight picture for those two. If they weren't so close together, I'd think they were just part of the same 7-inch group. A rifle shooter who was watching said that those were the final two shots. The 3-shot group is about 4 1/4 inches. Too bad I didn't stop with those. <smile>

As far as pricing is concerned... let me remind people of what took place with S&W M28's. For the longest time they were considered the "cheapie" version of a M27, there's nothing "cheap" about a m28, it reality is great gun and those that had one knew that it was a "sleeper". Prices languished in the sub $350 range for the longest time until....

The "knot heads" woke up one morning to discover, Hey!! these M28's aren't half bad... now try to find a M28 in really good condition for under $500 these days. After the "secret" got out about how good of a gun they actually are, in combination with the desire for a no lock S&W, demand/interest started rise and prices soon followed.

The same dynamics is now occurring with the older Ruger six series, people have rediscovered them and it's on.

$450 OTD is a great price.

This a ANIB Speed-Six I bought several years ago, it replaces my original one that I sold a year after I bought it in 1980. I over paid for this one, but time has corrected that, and then some.

Congratulations on your Security Six and it sounds like a fair price to me. Heck just reading through the posts now has me interested in taking mine out, can't recall the last time I shot it now. :-(
