Just bought a Bulgarian Makarov (9x18)!
So just got this Bulgarian Makarov in from AIM Surplus ($300). Came with a spare mag, holster, lanyard, second set of grips, and cleaning rod. And enough cosmoline on it to make my last milsurp purchase (Zastava M57) self conscious.

Very nice. I've been eyeing those as it seems several sites I browse have put them up for sale.
Great buy and a great piece. let us know how it handles.

Gotta love those Maks! I have a Russian commercial with the stupid adjustable sights and a very nice (East) German. Great little pistols.

Have had three Maks, great guns. Fit my hand perfectly and are flat for easy carrying. All three went to good causes, young ladies that use them for defense. As Leroy Thompson says, they go bang Every time!!

Hand carried to Aberdeen the first Mararov that we got our hands on.

I've got one myself (from different merchant) came with a log book with a single entry, so it was unissued. I was always under the impression that Mak was just a knock off of PPK but when I completely disassembled it to clean all the cosmoline I've realized that the only similar part is the take down lever You only need a single screw driver (for the grip screw) to completely disassemble it. Plenty accurate and very lite recoil.

I have both a Bulgarian and a Chinese. Very good guns, though I had to change all the springs in the Chinese. The factory ones were ****. Very solid guns that shoot very well.

Looks like you got a really nice one. All of the goodies, too!
Congrats on your purchase. Even though I'm a S&W revolver guy, I love Makarovs and own seven of them. It's easy to get addicted to Maks. Great guns.

From what I've read, the Bulgarians are considered the best made. I have fired a few Maks, but never owned one. It doesn't seem that it was long ago since they were selling in the low $100s range, complete with holster and a spare mag. I should have bought one back then. I tried firing one using .380 ACP ammo several years ago. It worked OK, and I could hit the paper at 15 yards, despite the .380's too-small bullet diameter for the larger Mak bore. At one time, .380 barrels to fit the Mak were available, don't know if they still are. I had a friend who had a commercial (non-military) Mak, but I don't remember much about it, as it's been more than a few years back. I think it was a 2-tone or Pinto.

I am excited to get this thing cleaned up and try it out. I just ordered 4 boxes of 9x18 Makarov from SGAmmo, so I'm sure it'll be here before I get the thing cleaned up. Looks like it's going to be a cosmoline bath, for sure.

Hot water...HOT water and "Dawn" dishwashing soap took care of the goop mine (a Bulgie also) came packed in many years ago. Darn good little guns, accurate as all get out with cheap (at the time) ComBloc ammo. Had a bit of kick to it as I recall.
The only time mine ever jammed was with American made, factory ammo. Go figure.
Alas...I traded or sold it off for something or other. I might have to keep my eye out for one now that you people have gotten me thinking about one again.
I had a Don Hume J.I.T. holster I used for mine. I think it was actually made for a Walther IIRC.
