Default Ruger LCR in 327 mag

I was giving some thought to the LCR in 327 mag that they have came out with but a check with Midway USA shows that they have only 6 kinds of ammo for it and 5 of them are out of stock. All of them are high priced. Anyone have a 327 and can get cheaper range ammo for it?

Of course, you can also use .32 S&W Long and .32 H&R Magnum (or maybe even .32 ACP) ammo in it for range use, and either would be cheaper and available in more varieties than .327. Or you could take up reloading as the best option for cheap ammunition

I was having the same thoughts recently. The 327 intrigues me but I wish there were more reviews out there.

Here's what I found in the world of ammo: I like to deal with SG Ammo or Ammunition to go for most of my ammo needs.
SG had several varieties, but Ammo to Go had more. There is also Ammo Seek.

I actually found 32 auto at my local Walmart (WW White box) for $25. My understanding is this will fire and eject in the LCR. Which points up a very big advantage of this gun......32 auto, 32 long, 32 HR mag 32 Federal, and I don't know if there is a 32 short but those will all feed the LCR.

I have this gun and I really like it. As noted above it will shoot .327 Federal Magnum, .32 H&R Magnum, .32 S&W Long, .32 S&W, and some say, .32ACP, although I have never tried that one. Shoots them all well. Matches up nicely with my wife's S&W 432, in .32 H&R. The .327 Federal can be a handful to control. A 6 round revolver, I do not regret buying it. It will find its way into my EDC rotation.

"I don't know if there is a 32 short but those will all feed the LCR."

There is a .32 S&W cartridge, shorter than .32 S&W Long, but it's a little difficult to come by. The other choices are much more readily available. That's the advantage to the .327 - quite potent in its full power form, but there are many different other ammo choices. Sort of like the .357 Magnum revolver, which will also accept .38 Special, .38 Long Colt, and .38 Short Colt ammo (although .38 LC ammo is rare these days). I don't have anything in .327, but would probably snap one up if I got a really good deal, as I already load for both the .32 S&W Long and .32 H&R, all using .32 ACP dies. .32 Long or .32 ACP for fun stuff and .327 Fed or .32 H&R factory loads for more serious purposes. You have to be a little careful with .32 ACP as there may be extraction problems, and grouping may not be so good due to the slightly smaller bullet diameter, but it works OK for me. For revolver use, I reload .32 ACP with .312 lead bullets.

What comes first the gun or the ammo?
It's a hard to find round when it comes to both the ammo or the guns. I imagine ammo manufacturers are hesitant to dedicate many resources when there is such a small consumer base and gun manufacturers are hesitant to produce many guns because it's hard to find the ammo.

I would also like a LCR in .327 but I'm holding out for a longer barrel and a model with a hammer. I'll reload the rounds once I have the brass.

Hopefully more options will emerge in the near future or the cartridge could become obsolete before too long.

32 S&W long is used for various types of competitive target shooting so there are lots of wad cutter and round nose commercial loads that are good for practice.

Georgia Arms has some reasonably priced 32 H&R Mag rounds available for mail order.

Their 100 gr JHP would probably be a good carry round if you find 327 Federal too painful.

GA also has 32 S&W (the short version) available, but those really are good mainly for defense against hamster invasions -- plus they are more expensive than many of the 32 S&W long varieties from other vendors.

I think the LCR 327 would be a good carry gun -- especially because it's a six shooter.

I bought the LCR in a .38spl. It was a screaming deal, but that is a sad little excuse for a pistol. It even rattles. I'll be able to get my money out of it, but it is a Ruger. I had hoped for more.

Update - Talked to Ruger. They think my LCR is seriously broken based on a specific complaint, so it is off to the factory. There appears to be hope. But then their CS has been good.

Ruger also just started producing the SP101 in .327 Mag with a 4" barrel. I have that also. Same cartridges apply. S&W is really missing out on this caliber. My opinion...

Ammunition and firearm manufacturers put time, money and developmental research into what's prevalent and popular... numbers are their own power. The .327 magnum is a relatively new and niche round and I think to prudent to avoid it for now. The reasons are limited ammunition choices and availability, lack of real-world data demonstrating what are the most effective defense rounds since there are very few shootings involving it. I think it's better to stick with something that's proven and established such as .38 special/.357 Magnum.

I own a LCR in 9mm, 22LR and 22mag and find it a great little pocket carry gun. Mine are solid as a tank. When Bud's gets in a LCR in 327 I may have to grab one unless something else comes up. So many guns so little time and money.

I have .327 in the Single Seven, it's a fun round and the AE 100gr sp load really smokes.

The 327 Magnum is one of my favorite cartridges and a very versatile chambering. My first 327 was a S&W 632 with a 3" barrel, that revolver introduced me to this great round. I now have a Ruger Single 7, an SP101 and finally the LCR. Finding ammunition has never been a problem for me, I visit 3 stores that regularly stock it. The 50 round Federal 85 and 100 grn JSP loads usually cost $26/28 a box. I bought a case of Federal 32 S&W Long Wadcutters just for plinking and fun. There are so many good 327 and 32 H&R loads being produced now that I believe that as more people discover this neat round the more popular it will become.
You're going to love your LCR. For carry ammo I highly recommend the Speer 115 grin Gold Dot.
