I can not comment on the new CA's but the older 70/80's from the Stratford Ct. Factory were good low price guns! I worked there in the 70s and the .357 and 44 were well made for the price. I assume they still are! I am planning on a CA Snub if I cannt get the one a purchased for my dad.
If possible rent one and see how it feels, Sorry not much help

My Charter Arms .44 spl"Bulldog" is marked "Bridgeport, Conn". Charter Arms manufactured revolvers in Bridgeport Conn from 1964 to 1970

I was in the Stratford factory 75/76 forgot about them being in Bridgeport the armpit of Ct. :O

I don't know much about the newer ones, but the old .44 Bulldog was a handful! Recoil increased as it was fired, since the rounds made up a good percentage of the weight of the gun! I can't remember what I swapped mine off for but mine is long gone.....
