Default Stevens 5100 16 gauge, is it worth buying

I've always loved 16 gauges, have several model 12s and a 97 as well as an 870. Local shop today has a Stevens 5100 double and I am unfamiliar with it.
Looks like a savage 311, has good finish and bores and is pretty unmolested. Downside is it has the dreaded fake wood stock made out of some synthetic.
I can find wood replacement new stocks for the 12 and the 20 gauge but no one can say if the 16 is on the same received as the 12 or not.
All in all for 200 I like it but I would be sold if I knew real wood was a possibility, I realize cost wise it wouldn't be worth buying a brand new made stock for but I'm not worried about that.
Please share any good or bad experiences with it.
Thanks.

Nice guns. Pre-311 really. I've never owned one with the Tenite stocks and probably won't. Just seems wrong.
Should be its own size frame,16ga.

Had a couple of 12g in past. Guns will "jump" off your shoulder
if you don't add some weight to stock. Take off plug and fill with
sand. One guy I know used drywall compound. I'm pretty sure
311 12 g wood will fit, check out Numerich Arms site. Some of
late Savage-Fox B series will work also. When buying any of the
Tenite stocked guns make close inspection of stock for deteriation
some bore cleaners make the stocks brittle. This shows up first
where butt meets box lock. It will kinda crumble like a cookie.

No bad stories. Good gun.

All respectable quail hunters in the 50's and 60's had to have a side by side, M-12 Win or a Browning Sweet 16.

My dad had a Savage double in 16 gauge. It was his only shotgun until he bought a tight choked pump for Turkey hunting.

He used it on quail and rabbits. My bro and I used it for most every thing. Tough gun. Late in life Dad traded it in on a Savage Model B Fox in 20 gauge. I sorta had to talk him off the ledge when I told him it was not a real Philadelphia Fox.

Once in a while I see the plastic stocked guns by Savage, usually higher priced in LGS' as they are trying to market the rare gun.

Many years ago I had a Stevens mod 94 single barrel with the Tenite
stock. The recoil was murder and I didn't keep it very long. They show
up on GB often and usually sell for less than wood stocked guns unless
they are mint. I think the Stevens doubles are all built on the same
size receiver with different size radiuses on the sides for different
gauges. Look closely at the back of the receiver where the stock fits
and you will see that the shape is different for Tenite vs wood and
so the wood butt stocks will not fit a receiver originally made for a
Tenite stock.
