Sig P229 SL Elite vs HK P7
This is not a true 'this pistol is better than that pistol'. I'm trying to make a decision, just wanted to get some feedback.
I have an HK P7. Like the gun very much. It's an ergonomic winner in all respects. Slim, compact, full-size barrel, beautiful profile. The squeeze cocker is tacti-cool. The only thing that gives me 'pause' is the 8+1 capacity.
I've been seriously looking at the SIG P229 Stainless elite in 9mm. This is the full stainless framed version. If I get this one, it would mean trading the HK P7 (have to make room in the safe, both are 9mm). What I really like is the option of 17 or 20 round capacity. I do not currently own a 'hi-cap wonder nine'.
HK P7's are no longer made. Getting another one will be expensive and hard. I'm also concerned about recent talk about small parts breakage with the current SIG pistols.
Am I crazy to make this trade? Or are they comparable pistols?
Thanks.

I had an early P-7 very much regret letting it go. Keep the P-7, you don't need a bucket of cartridges to get the job done.

This is the advice I thought I would get. The P7 is a wonderful little gun. maybe someone will come along and defend the all stainless SIG.

Keep the P7. I regret not getting an ex-German police example when CDNN had then for $699 a few years back.

I have owned a number of SIG P-2xx pistols over the years. They are nice guns. That said, I once owned a P7, and traded it for something else I wanted more at the time. Out of all the guns I have traded and sold, (quite a few), it is one of the few I regret. I don't see the capacity as a real issue in SD carry, but if you really want more rounds to play with, there are a ton of decent high cap 9mm's out there that don't cost an arm and a leg to buy, and will feed your needs. I'd keep the P7, and save towards a high cap 9mm to supplement it.
As far as current SIG quality goes, cant say for sure, as my usual carry is a Glock 26 that is boringly accurate and reliable. Back when I carried a SIG on the job, and trained other agencies with them, they were as good as anything else out there, and better than most. When it comes to "bad" brands / guns, remember this is the internet. If half the reports of poor quality and failures were accurate, quite a few of my guns would not work - but for some reason they do. Hmmmm?

Hard to say. I agree with these guys ....except. ...
If this is your one and only high(er) capacity gun that will be used and used and trained with and shot a lot and something you require when/if time comes to a point where lots of fans are spinning at full speed!
If it's just another gun to occasionally shoot keep the HK. Or, if your really just want a double stack save up some money and get a police trade in Glock or M&P. They typically run around $350

I own a P229 Stainless Elite and a P7 M8. They are very different, and I like each of them for their own attributes. If I was forced to make a choice however, the Sig would go because it is way more easily replaced.

I have a P229R in .40 S&W and .357 Sig with a Sig .22LR conversion unit. Pretty cool gun. A 9mm conversion barrel may be in it's future.
I also have a P7.
Keep the P7. Save for a hi-cap 9mm. There are no more P7's and new hi-cap 9's come along all the time. And no hi-cap 9mm's carry as flat as the P7.
