It's a very collectible gun with that hammer shroud, but a very delicate flower as a shooter.

Mine is a 1968 Cobra, minus the hammer shroud, purchased new the same year. I just shot it and it continues to run great. Had the hammer bobbed in the late '90s and it slips neatly into a pocket holster now.

Default They are great little carry guns.

Mine is a 1960 model. They weigh about nothing.

Mine has always been a good reliable shooter. There is really nothing not to like about them IMHO.

I carry a parkerized Colt Agent every day, unless I boost up to carrying a 4" model 29 S&W ...The Agent is the last version of the Cobra.... it's steady diet are 148 gr LWCs over a dose of Unique... with just enough hard duty loads thru it to stay proficient...maybe a box a year....The is the same that I run thru my old Chiefs.. I carry 2 small pistols instead of trying to reload one fast... I switch... the S&W is the 2nd pistol...I consider neither delicate but I refuse to run warm/hot loads continuously thru either...

Mine is from around 1972.
Had to change the grips to goodyears as it bit me on the web of my hand with the wood grips it came with.

Shoots great as far as I'm concerned.

They're nice guns. I had one until a few days ago, but sold it mostly because I just didn't
like shooting it. The trigger would rub my finger raw for some reason.

Great gun otherwise.

It's amazing how light they are, even with 6 rds on board. I have two, and one looks like the day it left the factory- 1958.

This Cobra has been my daily carry for a while now, from 1974. Lots of holster wear but still tight and accurate.

Great gun! and identical to Jack Ruby's with that shroud, but probably earlier than his with those "Coltwood" grips. If you carry it around a lot it'll eventually look like my '52 Cobra. This one apparently carried forever by an off duty cop but mechanically perfecto. Nice score and that shroud is a prize.

The older Cobras weigh 15 oz unloaded. The newer models like mine above come in at 16 oz.

the blue wear & rust/pitting issue is why I've come to prefer parkerized everyday carry guns... that finish is extremely durable, is very rust resistant & stays very nice with a wipe of a Breakfree CLP sprayed cloth several times a week... & it resists holster wear so much better than blue finishes do...I love the deep Royal Colt blue & the S&W blue is a very close second..& for just looking at guns/collector guns that blue is superb... but the parkerized finish is better for everyday guns..I admit to not liking stainless steel handguns glare issues in bright sun...

Last year I picked up a nickel plated Cobra at a local show. Stocks are worn and nickel is peeling here and there but the price was right and I'd never owned a Colt snubby. This a gun to be carried a lot and shot a little. Recoil is nasty.

I'm partial to the Second version Agents with the parkerized finish. The extractor rod is shrouded and some of mine have the optional hammer shroud. I own several and really like the way the gun handles. Felt recoil is minimal to me. The frame is larger than a Smith J frame and the cylinder handles six rounds. When I was working in a local gun shop, I always carried two and used to chuckle about the "New York reload" concept as I am a displaced Brooklyn & Upstate resident.

When my sister came to visit from Florida, I let her shoot one of my Agents and she liked it so much, it became a birthday present.

I've owned Dick specials and Cobras but they never appealed to me like the "ugly" parked Agents. I've always felt the Agent is just a Cobra with working man's clothes instead of a tuxedo.

My Lew Alessi holster fits it like a glove. The old standby Uncle Mike's pocket holsters slide into my front pants pocket and stay put when the gun comes out. A close friend, a retired LEO, gave me two sets of Eagle Secret Service grips that he special ordered with checkering. They feel comfortable and secure in my hand.

I don't remember the exact factory recommendation, but they suggested a factory tune-up after a fairly low round count. The alloy frame is also more susceptible to stretching and cracking, as are all frames of this type. Alloy and aluminium frame revolvers are meant for a lot of carrying and very little shooting, and then with only fairly anemic loads. The Cobra is a real lightweight, made when metallurgy was not nearly as advānced as it is today. I have owned a couple of them and sold them to collectors. If you want a classic carry piece that weighs next to nothing, it's perfect. For a shooter, buy a Detective Special. Same gun. All steel. I believe your OP is an all steel gun. My Army Special is the same gun before the name change, and it's all steel.

I have a couple of Agents with hammer shrouds. One is from '64, the other from '75 and has the shrouded ejector rod. They are the same gun as the Cobra with a shorter grip frame I believe. The small wood stocks are almost useless. Thank God for Goodyears! They are among my favorite carry guns.

Here are my favorite Agent and Cobra. The agent is a deep concealment gun the way it is set up. Not fun to shoot, easy to carry. The Cobra is simply a great shooter and lightweight carry gun. Currently I got some rare Spegal boot grips on the Cobra.

Certainly one of my favorite carry revolvers. Got mine on a trade years ago. Most of the finish was gone. Not what a Purist would do, but I had mine professionally refinished in a coating that has proven to be very durable.
