Question A Couple of Questions for Secret Taurus Owners

To whom it may concern:

These are honest questions from an honest Taurus fan. This is not meant to stir up any ire against me for sure.

So all will know, I carry a Taurus 738 380acp. But I also carry a Model 360pd Smith J Frame 357.

First, has the Taurus recall hurt their business so far?

Second, do you think it will hurt their business and rep in the long term?

Seeking honest feedback from people of good will.

What recall are you talking about? I have a TCP .380 and think it's a
bargain for the price and a very reliable gun in general. There was a
recall some time back involving the GII 9mm I believe but they
resolved the issues and the guns are selling very well right now.

I have a TCP and it has also been flawless with everything I've put through it.
I've owned another Taurus plastic semi, a 357 revolver, and I even own a Rossi 357 too. No problems with any of them.

I'm 99% certain the recall was for the earlier Gen I Millennium series guns, not the GII series guns. The GII series were introduced to address the issues with the Gen I Millennium series. The GII's are selling well from what I've seen and the feedback on them has been very good on the TaurusArmed.net site.

As long as the recall doesn't break them financially (unlikely) I think they are going to weather the storm A-OK. Warranty service times may get a little long until the bulk of the recall work is completed, but otherwise, I believe they are going to be just fine.

I think you are correct. It was the early version of the Millennium that
had problems. The current Millennium is an improved version and is
selling well.

If I'm not mistaken, the Shield had a recall too, somewhere between 1 and 1,000,000. Or maybe they called it something else, but it was a recall.

I owned a .357 Taurus snub for a house gun when I was younger. It worked. No experience with the autos, though.

I've owned two that I was happy with; a five shot 4" .44 magnum and a tiny .22 semi auto. I'd buy another if it was something I really liked.

Gents, Google is your friend!!!

"models sold between 1997 and 2013 in the U.S., Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands and Guam:  PT-111 Millennium; PT-132 Millennium; PT-138-Millennium; PT-140 Millennium; PT-145 Millennium; PT-745 Millennium; PT-609; PT-640; and PT-24/7."

Do I think it will effect their business? No! Two reasons. First, most companies have had recalls at one time or another. Springfield had one with their sub compact XD, S&W had one, Remington, and I'm sure others have had too. Second, their guns fit a certain market that will never go away

OK, I will admit to owning a couple of Taurus handguns and I have no complaints with either. I have an older Model PT945 that has a horrible trigger but is a smooth shooting, lightweight SA/DA .45 and a very robust stainless Model 85 .38spcl snubby that has never failed to go boom. I cannot comment on the shortcomings and failures of their more recent models, but I do know of several people who have had issues with their Taurus. Those issues, along with what I have read here and elsewheres are enough to keep me from purchasing any additional handguns manufactured by Taurus.

Ok I must confess here and believe me it took every bit of courage and daring but......... I do not own a Taurus.

But seriously I am not one to bash as I have never shot one. If it serves the purpose then that's really all that matters.

My Toyota was just recalled for a electric window problem that could catch fire. Fixed in 45 minutes, and I don't believe it will hurt Toyota's sales any at all. People are so used to recalls on anything today to doesn't seem to make any difference.

I have only one Taurus, a PT-609. Yes, it is one of those affected by the recall. No, I haven't sent it in. So far it has north of 5000 rounds through it with no issues. Nice little pistol. I will eventually send it in. They seem to be replacing these with new PT-111G2s when they are sent in. That would be okay with me.
