Default Best of both worlds

Here is one of my favorite guns. The first one I bought for the sum of 67.00 new. I always wished S&W would make something like this. Double action with swing out cylinder and western styling. It is very accurate and light weight nine shot. I guess the market is not there but I would be a buyer and I have quit buying.High standard double nine.

I LIKE that. There is one advertised locally, and I never even thought I would be interested - because I assumed it was SAO. Now thanks to your post I know it is SA/DA, and I am VERY interested in it. THANKS!

Note that Tex Watson used a Hi-Standard Double Nine .22 revolver in the Sharon Tate Cielo Drive murders - a Longhorn with a 9-1/2" barrel. See: Hi-Standard Double Nine Longhorn "Buntline" Styled .22 Caliber Revolver | Charles Manson Family and Sharon Tate-Labianca Murders | Cielodrive.com

I have had one for about 15 to 20 years. My wife has arthritis and won't use any single actions, but she has absconded with my 7 1/2" Longhorn Double Nine. It seems to like Federal Champion ammo better than even Eley or RWS. So I can afford to let her shoot all she likes, which nowdays is about a box or so a month.

The gun is nowhere near a S&W 17 but the shape and size of the grips make it perfect for a medium man's or large woman's hand, which my wife has (and that keeps her away from my 17!)

You rarely see any Double Nines at a gun show anymore and when you do they're extremely proud of them. My first was the nickel model with the black grips. I gave $35.00 for it in 1966. I then later got the blue with fake ivory grips and a Natchez model. The Natchez is very desirable to High Standard collectors. I have since given them all to my son.

I went and looked at the one that was advertised locally yesterday. A couple of scratches in the aluminum of the frame, but otherwise it looked pretty good.

The SA trigger was very good. I'd estimate it at round 2-3 pounds with a very crisp break and it only moves about 1/32"-3/64" to release the hammer. But the DA trigger pull on it was REALLY heavy - in the 12-13 pound range, really long too.
