Default Colt LE6940 vs Sig 556 Patrol

So I'm "tire-kicking" the idea of picking up a rifle and there's two nice guns locally. The Sig is $200-300 less than the Colt. I know they're a little bit different, but just curious if anyone has some insight or tell me which they would get and why?

Appreciate it. Thank you in advance!

Run away from the 556 patrol. Sig really botched the entire roll out of the 556 platform. They have abonded the 556XI in favor of the MCX. You are going to see fewer and fewer 556 rifles as we move forward. IMHO.

The Colt 6940 would not necessarily be my pick on a piston AR but I would take it over the Sig. Piston driven ARs are a love it or leave it proposition. Is there a particular reason you are looking at Piston driven ARs vs DI?

I have both, Get the Colt.
The Sig came from the factory with a %$#@ed up BCG. Rather than fight with Sig to make it right, I put a Fail Zero unit in it and it's 100% now. I've never had to do anything to the Colt.

Colt LE6920 AR-15 5.56/223 Carbine with No Furniture or Stock - Hyatt Gun Store

this would be my recommendation without knowing what the two guns your looking at are priced. these have gone up about $150 in the last two weeks though.

Sorry, should have included the prices.

Colt: Asking $1300 (w/out ACOG)
Sig: Asking $1000

Both are used.

I'm glad I asked, I hadn't been able to find a decent review of the Sig. Any reason to avoid the 6940? I am new to rifles, so I'm doing a little crash course here.

Cost is the only reason to avoid the Colt. IMHO I do not need a piston driven AR. For me it is a solution looking for a problem. They are heavier and the only real advantage is they run cleaner. Unless you are in a situation where you are not cleaning your gun after shooting I see no advantage. A lot of other guys do so like I said it is a bit divisive. You could get a 6920 NIB for less.

I agree with this feedback. I'd go with a DI Colt and not look back. True mil spec weapon, great quality, and the prices have come down a bit over the past year.

Ive got several Sig handguns that I really like, but personally, I wouldn't touch a Sig AR...

I'd get a DI AR. If you're set on a piston rifle then get an AK variant or an FN Scar.

You'd have to really like that handguard on the Colt cuz there ain't no changing it.

My suggestion is to first decide on the configuration you want. Once that's nailed down it'll be easier to make an intelligent choice among rifle makers.

Take a look at BCM. Quality and lots of choices.

This. The 556 Patrol is only related to the Swiss 556 in name. They are not the same rifles and Sig USA screwed the pooch on this.

Aside from that I agree with everyone else on the DI. Get the DI.

Thanks, fellas! Eyes open for something else. Probably looking at a LE6920 then put some Magpul furniture on it. Trying to find one local, private party which is the tough part.

You could get a 6920 with Magpul furniture from the factory. Those were NIB for about $800 before San Bernardino. They have jumped up $150 -$200 because people are panicking. Prior to that it was a great time to get a Colt Mforgery.

You might wait a bit for things to calm down.
