LGS has a NIB "ol stock" 6720 tucked away. Light barrel, rogers adj super-stock, VERY nice sights, 2 20 round & 1 30 round p mags.Its unhandled new and kinda pricy, question, is one of the "good ones"? regards Ernie

The Colts are excellent. The 6720 is identical to the legendary 6920 but with the lightweight barrel; many hardcore ARs users significantly prefer the thinner barrel profile.

Its a good rifle which only really differs with from the 6920 in that it has a lightweight pencil barrel which makes the overall rifle just over 6lbs vs about 7lbs.

Practically speaking unless you rapid firing at a high rate the accuracy of the pencil barrel will be on par with the M4 profile barrel.

It really comes down to preference. Lighter weight and profile vs heavier with some accuracy advantage with higher rapid rates of fire.

I personally prefer the look and feel of the 6920. What are they asking for it?

Colt makes good rifles. The one you're looking at is just a pencil barrel variant. I have a 6920 and a 6721. The 6721 is the heavy barrel veriant with a 1/9 twist rate

You and I know there aren't any bad ones beyond the occasional lemon all manufacturers make, but there is the ongoing misconception that different dealers get different quality Colt ARs, i.e., that Walmart sells second-quality and blem Colts versus other establishments. Entirely untrue, to my understanding.

Might be what OP was referring to, or perhaps was simply asking if the 6720 is a good model, and it is. The Colts sold on the civilian market are identical to the Colts sold to military and LEO, save for semiauto only and a 16.1" barrel versus shorter.

Colt builds their civilian rifles the same way as they do their military. All materials are the same and so is the process. The only thing you don't get is the select fire and a short barrel (you can get a short barrel with a $200 NFA stamp). Otherwise the manufacturing process is the same

The 6720 is an excellent specimen. That price is a tad high but the market demands it right now. I love my 6720.

I own both a 6720, and a 6920. They each shoot well with no discernible difference that I am capable of identifying. If I were grabbing one in a real life end of the world scenario, I would go with the 6720 due to the lower weight.

For OP, yes, the 6720 is definitely one of the good ones.

The price is a touch high because it's NOS from when Colt supplied a few more accessories -- extra mags, the Roger's stock versus standard M4 stock, and -- if I recall -- the rear folding sight was a metal KAC [EDIT: faulty recall, it was a Matech rear sight, not KAC] rather than polymer (though excellent) Magpul.

If you can do without the extras, you can get 6720s for $799 right now; I'm not sure the extras are worth the added cost in this case.

He would not budge on the 1100, but he did throw in a 90 box of Am Eagle 55 gr and another gen2 30 round pmag. I guess that's not to bad, It is sweet!

Considering what it came with, what your dealer threw in, and it was $1100 out the door (no shipping or transfer fees), you did fine.

$1100 is way too much considering the fact that new ones can be had
for $800. There is this prevailing misconception that older is always
better. Don't fall prey to this illusion. Buy new, get a warranty, use
common sense.

You might've missed that it's new old stock, so the warranty is intact; too, it's one of the ones from when Colt shipped more accessories than they do now, and the LGS threw ammo and mags in as well. Can't say it was a steal, but it was a decent price out the door. OP used common sense.

several have mentioned all are good, Colt was the only maker for a while after they bought the rights to it.

Colt on the side does give it a bit of panache and adds a little to value for standard price range guns. I've owned several Colts and have a MT 6601 HB match target and a homemade one on a Bushmaster lower in 6.5 Grendel.

I would like to have a 6920 M4 type for a truck packing gun, sort of like the old lever 30-30's were. After building one it is I found I did not save much if any money but did get a hunting caliber that was much cheaper than a complete one in 6.5 G.

Right now one can buy a 6920 for around 700 without the furniture so you can add your own.

With the accessories received you got a fair deal. It is one of the good ones and you will like it.

Some times I think you are peeking in my safe. I checked all my stuff is there.

My heavy bbl is the MT 6601 Match Target Match HBAR and has the 1x7 twist. It does very well with the 55 gr ammo.

I would think a light bbl would do fine for plinking or light target shooting and hunting unless one got it red hot.

If you're pleased nothing else really matters. I bought a new 6720 in October to put back for my daughter (birth year gun and all). I wouldn't pay $1100 for one at all. When they're in stock it's not hard to find them in the $800-850 range. The new ones come with fewer mags and an M4 stock, but still. Throwing in $40 worth of ammo and another $30 of PMags is no big deal. The Rogers stock is no bonus, some of those had issues with the qd swivel cups pulling out IIRC. I'm not aware of the 6720 ever coming with a KAC sight but they might have.
But, you never know. A year from now that might be some of the best money you ever spent.
