Default Luger - 1941 Mauser Banner Police "Eagle L" - 9mm

Here it is the last day of the year. This morning there was a thread about Lugers, and it made me think of one I have that I might share. It is somewhat rare and nice to look at. It's a 1941 Mauser Banner Police "Eagle L" - 9mm and remains in excellent condition.

These police Lugers have some interesting features, including the sear blocking mechanism not found on military Lugers. It's the little dog-legged flat spring riveted to the left side of the receiver that extends over the sideplate. It blocks the sear when the pistol is disassembled; thus preventing it from being fired. Did you know that a Luger top assembly will fire even when removed from the bottom frame?

Nice large date Mauser Banner Police. These can be found dated 1938,1939,1940,1941,1942, or just 41 or 42. Police stamps used were E/C,E/F,E/K and E/L with commercial proofs of either Crown/U or Eagle/N. These Police Banner Lugers can generally be found in excellent condition and production was very low and only in the v,w,x and y suffix ranges. That's only 40K and you have to remember that Mauser was also producing Lugers for commercial and foreign sales out of this same range.

That's gorgeous. Think I'll get my 1916 DWM out and give it it's yearly cleaning and oiling. No other pistol out there sits in your hand quite like a Luger.

Very nice and matching mag too !
I have a 1938 Mauser Military Luger that came with a brown Gbf marked holster date stamped 1941,
Appears military holsters had a different fastener than the police holsters ?

Police holsters used strap and stud and military were strap and buckle. Police and military acceptance stamps are different as well.

Super nice and a treasure to own. Lugers especially in this fine condition are commanding big prices today.
