Default More Luger Pictures...

A couple of people asked for more pictures, hopefully that will show at least some of the markings a little better. They're just "****** cell phone pictures" but they're the best I could do today.

Maybe someone with a high resolution monitor can make something of them.

Here's mine: A new in box Mauser Parabellum, manufactured circa 1971.

The Vopo actually has a Vopo stamp on the rail just in front of the sideplate. Unfortunately it has been peened out. I would buy it and take it home, disassemble as in field strip and soak it in gas, mineral spirits, naptha or whatever. Probably has dried gunk in it that needs to be removed. Re-oil it, I'll bet it will look totally different. What does the bore look like? These were sometimes refurbed with new barrels? Any markings on the barrel other than the import marks?

The bore looks good. I didn't notice any other markings on the barrel except the importers mark on the bottom, but the barrel is a totally different color from the frame, so it may have been replaced.

I'm no expert on Lugers (just like I'm no expert on S&Ws) but I've never seen a stamp on the underside of the barrel before now. Could it be an importer mark? The P08 is great fun to shoot. Most like hot ammo. Soft target loads may not work well.

One time a club I belonged to had a service pistol match. Everyone on the line had a 1911 except for one fool shooting an old Luger.

OK, I saw the other thread with the VOPO info. never heard of it and don't recall seeing them for sale 25 years ago. One of these would mate with a capture Model 98...

On reliability, I've had two and both functioned flawlessly.

The inspector marks on the right side of the barrel extension look absolutely original WW I. The Russian and VOPO reworks, like yours, are a recognized collector's variation of the Luger, incidently

Saxon Pig: Did the old fool with the Luger win the service pistol match?

Too late for that. I passed "geezer" a while back. I'm into "curmudgeon" status at this point.
