Revolver guy gets a 1911....
Okay some of you 1911 guys might not call it a real 1911.
It's a SIG 1911. Not a fan of rails on pistols (although I do see how they are useful.) and prefer blued guns but the price was right so I thought I'd give it a try.
Put 200rds through it so far and still getting used to it. While not many rounds at all but did not have any problems with it. (was using WC ETM mags that came with the gun.) Put a set of Magpul MOE grips on it and like the slimness of them.
Any tips from you 1911 guys for a barbarian.
Might keep it but miss having a SA revolver...

Got to love the 1911! Never shot a Sig 1911, but have heard good things about them. They do tend to multiply...

Congrats on your new 1911! I don't know why some would not consider it a 1911. Looks like a 1911 to me.

Agreed, but I'm and odd-ball. I had a Ruger SR1911, and I didn't get along with it. My Springfield Range Officer 9mm and I get along famously.

Thanks, JaPes. The slide is a little different than a standard 1911 and has a different extractor.
I read those 9mm Range Officers are shooting machines.

Sig makes a very nice 1911! I've had a nitron black model (bought as a tac pac - think it's a XO) for a few years and it has been excellent.
The non-traditional slide drives some crazy. I think it makes for a good looking pistol.

They can call it whatever they want. The photo shows JMB's invention, that's been with us for over 100 years now, since, uh, oh yeah, 1911!

Too many look at a 1911 that isn't " Just like JM Browning made it " and say that it isn't a 1911. I've always thought it was rather shortsighted to look at it that way myself. I've got a Sig reverse 2 tone classic that has been a great gun.

Smith makes a nice 1911 In this case piggy backed by the 625JM
If you like revolver triggers like I do too, then the 1911 is the next best thing. I really enjoy my 1911 and I prefer revolvers.
If you reload there are a lot of powders that seem to work well and I enjoy a 200gr SWC or RN230gr.
Have fun, that SIG oughta shoot well for you once you get a good feel on the trigger. Enjoy!

Given a gathering of 1911 folks, this is too good to pass up---even though I may get flogged for a bit of thread drift. I too am a revolver guy, but I have two 1911's---and I'd like to get educated about slide to frame fit.
#1 is a Wilson Combat Master Grade conversion of a Colt (circa mid 90's).
#2 is a Colt Special Combat Government, of the same age.
Neither has been used enough to talk about. The slide to frame fit on #1 is tighter than Dick's hatband! The fit on #2 is so loose, I swear it rattles. I've been told tighter is better. Both guns shoot ragged one hole groups.
Why----what's going on?
Many thanks!

Welcome to the coven!
You could do far worse than a Sig for your first 1911. They're a very high-quality pistol. I'm looking to add one later this year. I'm still a fan of Colts, but Sig and Springfield put a lot of goodies into their guns for the money. The Springfield RO is a great pistol.
Quality mags mag a real difference, and it seems like you're off to a great start. Have fun! They're addictive.

Nice gun, Shorty!
My tip- lay in a good stock of .45 ACP, and shoot that thing! I am sure you'll love it, if you don't already!

If the gun goes into battery exactly the same everytime, it will be accurate. I have a Colt Combat Commander that was never very tight, but I've put a whole magazine into a 1-1/2" target dot at 50 ft. with it. It's all about the consistency of the gun letting go of the round, barrel to sights wise. One of my favorites:

Nice!
And I agree with the others. Everyone should have at least one! And at least one 357! I'm now thinking I should have a 44mag too!
Best!

There are some 1911 aficionados who fashion themselves "purists" who insist that if it isn't a Colt built exactly as JMB designed it, it isn't a "real" 1911.
It's silly on many levels.

Because slide-to-frame fit has virtually nothing to do with a 1911's inherent accuracy. The barrel linkages and bushing fit have significantly greater effect, among other factors.
The emergence of tight slide-to-frame fits has been largely to do with shooter misunderstanding of what makes a straight shooting or well-built 1911, and custom makers catering to that misunderstanding because the market demands them to.
I get it, I'm one of them -- I know I like a tightly built 1911 with no rattles, but it's an aesthetic thing and proof of discerning craft in the build -- often of superb machinery and hand-fitting combined; but as your experience shows, as far as accuracy a rattle-trap can be just as good, and in some cases more reliable.

1911 itis is a disease, don't bother with going to a doctor though, there is no cure.

I have a Sig C3. Excellent gun!
Years ago, I would have griped about the external extractor. Now, I don't care.

Thanks for the welcomes. There are some very nice 1911's being posted.
I plan on shooting just it next range trip (had my M22-4 last as well.) and really try and get used to shooting it. Might even try a IDPA match if I can find a holster.

Moved away from 1911s in the late 80s in favor of Sig 220s and 245s.
About 2 years ago saw a used/anib Sig C3 1911 (from the custom shop)......Commander length upper on an Officers size frame..... back in the day, always thought that this combo was the ideal CC 1911,
Haven't put a lot of rounds down range...... but on it's first trips it would often leave the last round in the mag. sitting loose on top........ on line others had had the same issue and blamed the factory magazines.
I've picked up several Wilson Combat mags....... we will see......
But as someone said everyone should have one 1911 and one .357 !!!!!

Yep, they can be addictive.
And this picture is several years old. I've added a few more since this was taken.
Most people don't realize how adjustable the grip on a 1911 can be by simply changing grip panels, triggers or mainspring housings. I happen to like the arched mainspring housing and a long trigger. But to each his own.
Hapworth is absolutely right. Barrel fit is the key to 1911 accuracy. A nice trigger helps, but slide to frame fit is way down on the list.

SIGs seem to work fine. I'm sure yours will follow suit.
You will find that Colts' retain value better than the clones.
Many 'imprvements' are cosmetic, unhelpful and/or manufacturing shortcuts.
Shoot your SIG a lot.
When you decide to upgrade , buy a Colt.
