Lots of really nice 1911s in this thread. Here are a couple from my meager collection.
A Kimber Gold Combat RL
A Colt Stainless 38 Super, with some upgrades
A first issue Colt CCO
A Kimber Eclipse in 10MM and 357 Sig
And last but not least, a scratched up and customized Stainless Colt XSE in 45 ACP

Engraved guns are not really my thing.
I LOVE that engraved COLT.
What trigger is that on it by the way?

Two Colt National Match pistols, pre-war and post-war
This is a 1934 Colt
This is a first year Government Model #406 with it's ultra rare, exposed base plate magazine.

Who built that long slide? Quite an interesting way to lighten the slide. I don't think I've ever seen a long slide apart before.

Tom R and others, I'm not sure I would of done anything to your older 1911s? But, they are your pistols, finish isn't everything to me.

Hello 824tsv. It started out a 1950 38 super & I think Clark did the work in the 50s but his name is not on it. The barrel is a two piece silver soldered 38 super & shoots a .356 bullet. My Clark long slide on the left shoots a .357 bullet. The slide was maybe too heavy & they had to do some drilling to lighten up. The Clark doesn't have holes drilled in it. The long slide works best with 3.2 of Clays --3.2 American Select--or 3.1 of Bullseye to lock back on the last shot. Fun to shoot.. If you have the correct magazines for these 38 specials you better not loose them or get mixed up. Here are a couple more long slides. The one on the right uses .356 bullets also. These are late 60s guns. They need to be sent back to Clark for a refinish but they work ok. 1-23 is John Browning's birthday.

Well, mine are pretty plain, and aren't famous, or particularly old...but they are mine. Colts with Kuracs.
The Gov't Model does have good sights, excellent trigger and throated barrel. It feeds anything in a .45 case. I bought it that way, at the Ft. Worth gun show, in 1980.

Tom R; Thanks for the compliment about my engraved 1911. I believe the trigger is factory, but I'm not 100% sure. I bought the gun, pre-engraved, from a good friend. He had the checkering, sights, barrel, mag well, etc. installed before I got it. It was almost identical to the 38 Super pictured above it, before I got my mitts on it. Phil Quigley did the engraving, and did a wonderful job of it. It was done in celebration of my upcoming retirement.

The one that will be last to go is this "United States Property" marked 1911. It came to me through DCM sales in 1961. An uncle gave me the old wood grips to replace the plastic ones Rock Island put on it when they rebuilt/refinished it. I carried it with me every where the Army would allow, and perhaps, maybe, a couple of places it didn't. It served me well. It was built to be a soldier's sidearm, and, even though both of us have long since been retired, it remains one.

Don't want to hijack the thread.
This is not my rifle. It belongs to a friend. It is one awesome rifle that is unlike anything else in my collection. This 1911 is the perfect companion piece.

I took this picture of an original M1911 pistol as the frontispiece for my book 101 Classic Firearms. I think the M1911 is the most classic firearm of all time.

The 45s, the SS Sigs are the ones I customized for my twins Marine boot camp graduation presents, but they reside with the family for right now for obvious reasons.

My only 1911 right now is this Remington 1911R1 -
But I have a Colt LW Commander circa 1978 laid away, and will regale all with pictures soon.

I carried an M9 as a HMMWV turret gunner on my flack jacket. A staff NCO who had served in Desert Storm had his M9 in an issue tanker holster and I always thought it was pretty neat. Some 20 years later I came across a deal on one. Better late than never.

OUTSTANDING!!
Nice guns, all- I've got a few squirrelled away, but I only seem to have one "nice" photo- my LB Longslide:
A Wilson KZ45:
Colt Combat Commander, one of my favorites:
Wilson 1996A2, my brother has the same gun with the preceding serial# (my gift to him when I got the pair)
There's a few more, I should probably get some photos sometime...
And one that got away (Wilson Mastergrade on a SVI frame, went to a good home, though)...

Here is another of mine...a nice stock 1911 (except for the wood); a Colt Special Combat 45 from 1989:

I'll add these three to the mix.
A Government Model from 1914.
A 1960's Government Model set up for Bull's Eye Competition.
An XSE.

Here are the two I own.
A Kimber and a first year Browning 1911/22. I like the size comparison between the two.

Man. I'm almost ashamed to show up with this one, but I just got it yesterday, and it's my first 1911 in a long time.
Rock Island Armory 1911-A1 FS, in 9mm. I got it used, so I assume it's stock out of the box. I had sorta, kinda wanted another 1911 (I had a Colt Government Model back in my IPSC days), but didn't want to start reloading for another cartridge. Since I was already set up for 9mm, it was a natural.
Hope to get it to the range today, work permitting.

I've got a few but I'm not much of a photographer. This was a pic recently when I dug out a bunch. The highlights are: 1929 Super .38, British .455, engraved presentation grade with ivory, a few M1911A1's, an early Delta, a few M1911's/Gov't Models from WW1, etc.

There's a few of them in here along with some other .45 U.S. military handguns. Most were purchased back in the '60s and '70s when they were more common. I could not afford most of these today. This is one of the pics I took for my article on U.S. .45 handguns in the 2003 Gun Digest.
