Default Major importer goes belly up

SAMCO GLOBAL ARMS / FIREARMS - Stampler Auctions

I've bought many C&R firearms from them over the years. With the current firearms boom it's hard to believe they can't prosper.

The SAMCO web page is down. Glad I was able to get a couple of cases of 7.62x39 from them over the summer before this happened.

If it were just a matter of staying in the firearms-related business it sounds easy, but you never know what is happening behind the scenes - retirement, illness, family issues, bad investments elsewhere, moving on to a new business. No way to tell.

Being a collector of old Mausers I would sure love to get first crack at something.

Here's a list of the inventory.

I regret this very much. I remember buying Shotgun News, Gun List, and gun magazines in paper form.

Samco was there for a long time.

So...group buy of the whole lot? Any takers?

Probably had something to do with the lawsuit...

Along with certain other establishments, I treated SAMCO with caution when it came to buying milsurps.

I'm thinking surplus is drying up and the scrutiny (regulatory agencies) upon these businesses is at an all-time high

If that were the case, why does Colt still have a foot in the grave?

I've never bought from them, but yeah, the guys over at the Surplus Rifle Forum say the same thing.

I've had no issues with parts from SARCO, although others say they've had less luck buying kits from them.

However, the SAMCO imported guns varied hugely regarding provenance. Some were good buys, while others bore the hallmarks of "bitsa" guns put together for the US market. Whether it was done overseas or here I cannot say.

TL;DR Buying milsurps from SAMCO was a close to lottery experience, IMHO.

No idea but they've been burying Colt since at least the mid 80's that I know of.

SAMCO GLOBAL ARMS filed bankruptcy. Problems with there backer.

I purchased many sweet Swedish mausers from them. Never had a problem they didn't correct. They were one of the best.

I ordered one of there unissued Persian Mausers around 1995. (I think they were about $500-600 - a lot of money at the time for a "surplus Mauser"). Delivery was real slow; about 3-4 months if I recall correctly. I called a couple of times and was told they were looking for them and got various other excuses. Eventually the rifle showed up. The rifle was nice but the delay put me off from ordering anything else from them. I don't have any recent experience with them.

Exactly. There's more to gun importers then just lack of interest or slow sales. A lot of the big boys who import by the tons are also the same guys you read about who supply legit and not so legit governments, armies and militias all over the world ......ala arms dealers

I believe Colt caused most of their own undoing.
