Ruger Security Six
What is the current value of a Ruger Security Six .357 in Stainless Steel, 4", in excellent condition (98% range)? Also, it was made in the 200th year of American Liberty.
Thanks in advance for your feedback.

$475 at the minimum. If I wanted one I'd go as high as $600. Do you have the box for it? The Sixes are getting tough to find, especially in great shape. I love my Service Six and wouldn't take less than $550 for it if I ever thought of selling it, which I wouldn't. They were made from the ground up to shoot .357, yet they're still a K frame sized revolver.

I paid 304 bucks out the door for a 1978 stainless 4" Security Six in 95% condition (no box) from a local "Field and Stream" a few months back. You couldn't smack the grin off my face with a shovel!
I believe it to be worth in the $475-550 range. Although I wouldn't part with it. I put the near-mint wood stocks away and it now wears Hogues. It is a steady range visitor and my "go to gun" for walks in the woods.
I totally agree with the values stated above by kbm for your piece.

Box? Papers? Which grips?
Realistically, $350-550, depending on locale and sophistication of the buyer. A Ruger enthusiast will pay more than the general public.

Here is a copy of what I said about the Ruger Security Six a few months ago:
The Ruger Security Six is, in my opinion, the Rodney Dangerfield of the medium framed, .38 Special/.357 Magnum revolver world - it gets no respect, no respect at all. The 4.0 inch barreled Security Six epitomizes the best of breed in a no frills, practical, medium framed revolver that can be used for home defense, self defense, target/range, and hunting purposes. It's not a handsome piece, and it's made worse by having the owner's manual printed into the barrel. I own two of them - an older blued steel 150 series, and a stainless steel 151 series that was a Puerto Rico Police trade in. Both of mine have the 4.0 inch long barrel and adjustable sights, and were purchased without the box, tools, etc. I think I paid around $350.00 for the 150 series a few years ago, and I bought the 151 series for just under $330.00 last year.
My experience has been that good examples can be kind of hard to find on the used market. Around here, the going prices start at around $450.00 and go upwards from there. They will fit in the same holsters that will accommodate a 4.0 inch long barreled S&W K-frame revolver, and will also use the same speedloaders that will fit a S&W K-framed revolver.
I think you should probably be able to get the one you are looking at for around $450.00 depending on your negotiation skills, and how bad they want to divest themselves of it. It's very hard to go wrong with a Security Six revolver, in my opinion.
My opinion hasn't changed one bit. I've added photos of my Ruger Security Six collection.
Regards,
Dave

I'm going to say $750 to $1,000 because of the "made in the 200th year of American Liberty" it's a 1976 revolver bicentinel. If you have the box, orginal grips and papers? I seen a gf32 with no scrip go for $750 recently. There are Ruger collectors.

I believe with the new world of Tupperware guns maybe these 357 magnum revolvers like colt, s&w and Ruger will come out of the woodwork here? IDK where they all are we just don't see many used magnums here.

The Ruger Sixes are scarecer then hens teeth around here. I finally picked up a 4" SS version 2 years ago. It's in nice shape,no box or papers and I paid $400. for it. Picked it up at a gun show and when I picked it up to look at it and saw the condition I grabbed it right of way because they're not out there?

Blue Book has always had them kind of low IMO. Maybe 12 years ago when a relative asked if I wanted to buy his 2 3/4" Ruger I looked it up and was surprised that it was only $275 at 95 or 98% which is what I gave him for it. Checking just now I see most versions are around $375 at 98% with a few versions commanding a 30% premium.
Are these revolvers going for more on the current market than Blue Book?
Anyway here's my only Security Six;

This Security Six is my very first handgun. I bought it new in 1977 and I believe I paid around $175. I love this gun and wouldn't consider selling it for $600. I recently put on some Ruger targets, but I like the look of the OEM service stocks better.

Thank you all for your input, it's definitely made to stand the test of time and the .357 round!

In addition to being an "American Liberty" gun from 1976, that makes it a pre-warning gun as well. Pre-warning Rugers are beginning to demand a premium among serious Ruger fanciers.
