Bought a brand X...
It's a shooter grade Colt Cobra! (Made in 72' I think.)
Timing is good and boy this thing locks up tight! there is no cylinder movement to the sides or front/back at all. It also is much easier to shoot than the 642 with boot grips even though the weight is less than an ounce different, which was surprising. Now I need a DS for shooting or IWB.
What grips do those of you with D frames use? The original ones aren't bad but would like a to see what else is out there. Thanks.

I like Hogues with finger grooves, they fit my hand well. Even better are Craig Spegel, but it takes a while to get them. I also shoot the Colt D frames better than I shoot the J frames. You need a companion Police Positive Special, they can usually be found at a reasonable price.

I have a couple of Agents from 64 and 75, both with shrouded hammers. Real fine carry weapons in MHO

That is a slick looking revolver- congrats! I've always liked the smaller-frame Colts.

Great revolver. I got tired of looking at the commercial offerings for my DS.
Finally, found a very nice set of customs on ebay. Probably from the Pacific rim and resold dirt cheap.
That revolver deserves something nice.

I carry a Colt Agent like yours. It also has the exposed ejector rod. Mine wears Pachs.

Grips are tough for the Colt D frames. If your Cobra was made in 72 then the grips will be for the short frame. Raj Singh at Eagle has some good looking grips. Hogue makes a grip for the short grip frame but you have to remove the stud at the rear base of the grip frame to use the Hogue. Mine was a bearcat to remove. Left it in and bought a set of Elk grips from Grashorn and bought a new Tyler T grip for it. For serious SD work I use the Pachmayr Compac. Rubber and ugly but really work for me.

Your '72 Cobra should be able to use the larger new style Detective Special grip from the same year(s) of your Cobra.... I have found those to be probably the best for these guns. They are not too large but fill the hand well without being too big for concealability. At least that is what I have found for my hand with my Police Positive Special. Nice score on a fine Colt...! I am envious! Love those old Colts!!!

The first time I saw or handled Pachmayr Compac grips they were on a DS2 and wore the Colt medallion. They felt so perfect to me that I've had a pair on my EDC J-frame for over sixteen years.

CERTAINLY NOT a Brand X! The Colt is a HIGH QUALITY Revolver! I'd consider a Charter Arms or Rossi a Brand-X.
Mine is the all steel Dick Spl. - GREAT Revolvers!

Congrats,that's a fine looking Cobra.
I have a 1966 dated gun,I like the sights on the Cobra and they shoot very well.

Nothing wrong with that other brand. I've owned (and used) several Detective models over the years. Congratulations!
