2016 Walther PPS M2
After a long search for a new compact carry 9mm, I bought a Walther PPS M2 last week.
PPS - Walther Arms
This is their new single stack pistol introduced at SHOT last month.
I shot 155 rounds of Blazer 115 and Speer Gold Dots, 0 malfunctions so far. Very soft shooter, especially with the 7 round mag. I put 6 of 10 rounds on a B-8 standing 2 hand, which for me is good. Sights are steel three white dot.
It is not lefty friendly; the mag release is not reversible, and there is no slide release on the right. Field strip is very much like a Glock.
Features changed from the PPS Classic include: Button mag release, no backstrap disable gizmo, enhanced ergonomics, and a wider trigger face with PPQ like parts. Pull is 6 lbs, and I like the cocking indicator that sticks out and moves, as the trigger is pulled. Fit and finish are excellent, reminds me of my VP9. I do not find I need a Talon grip wrap or sleeve.
I have a JM Custom Kydex holster on order. I like it a lot.
Edit to add a comparo with my VP9:

The one thing that made me mad was that Walther changed the base plate on the magazines so that the older PPS mags will not work It is a fine firearm and shoots like a Walther, but I do not need the front cocking serrations and I actually prefer the older mag release. I could grab the older mag release between my thumb and index finger and it worked very well for lefties or righties

Cocking serrations don't bother me. They don't get in the way of anything but the mag release change does. For small guns like that I prefer the German style mag release.

^^^ Fair points.
I don't think they worried too much about current PPS Classic owners in terms of mag compatibility. Judging by the number of new M2 owners on another popular brand-centric forum, most do not own, nor seem to care about, the PPS Classic, nor paddle mag releases.
Based on the timer, my slide lock reloads are not much different for a paddle vs. button; at least between my M&P FS9 and my VP9. On either one, I have to use my middle finger of my strong hand. I've gotten used to it.
For a small CCW, I (personal opinion) don't think button vs paddle matters.
I do believe more mainstream US buyers will resonate more with a button, than a paddle, mag release. Good move by Walther, and similar to the rationale of the PPQ M2.
For me, the purchase was more Walther eliminating the backstrap disconnect, as well as frankly, the vastly improved ergonomics. I shot a PPS Classic rental at the range before purchasing, among many other small 9mm pistols, and the "signature Walther ergonomics" phrase they use might not be in the same corny camp as "GRIP ZONE!!", but it does feel very nice in my hand (lefty, size M gloves).
One oddity is that even though the mags have catches designed in on both sides, the release button is non-removable. It kind of looks like they might have left that for future development.

Can't argue the backstrap gizmo is dumb, but my PPS classic isn't going anywhere, the paddle mag release is awesome. Truly ambidextrous, lefty and righty compatible at the same time with no modifications. Also it can never get bumped and release a mag while in the holster.
The paddle release set the PPS apart, from the other single stack compact 9mm's out there.

Just a quick update. 400+ rounds, 0 malfunctions.
I used it in my classes at Rangemaster's Tactical Conference 2016 in Memphis. 160 rounds shot drawn from my JM CK IWB holster using Speer Lawman 124 gr.
Very happy with this as a carry gun.
