need info on 2 guns a savage and a winchester!
Hi my dad recently passed down a couple of guns to me. one of them is a savage 250-3000 and I was just needing some info on it when it was made , how many made , value (even though I would never sell it) Model # and anything that the serial # might explain , any info I can get would be much appreciated . the serial number starts with 109xx its a bolt action , has peep sights, and is in pretty damn good condition .
The next gun that I have is a Winchester 32 special w.s. lever action the serial starts with 1259xxx it also has a W stamped under the serial number. This gun I know has lots of stories my dad traded a bottle of hooch to an old timer he knew in the woods when he was logging back in the 70's. great gun . if anybody might have some info on this as well I would love to hear it . as much info as I can get thankyou

I bet the Savage is a Model 1920 - if so that is one neat little rifle. Very trim and lightweight.
The Winchester is most likely a Model 94. Though most were 30/30s, the .32 Winchester Special was also fairly popular.
Nice guns. Can you post pictures?

SIGP220, is right on the money. If the 250-3000 is the model 1920 with a receiver sight, these are neat little guns inspired by the 1903 Springfield. The peep sight option is icing on the cake. Without my Winchester book handy the W under the serial number dates this gun @1939 to 1941. While many mistakenly believe these were special guns or factory owned examples because of the W, it is not so. Winchester started a new bluing procedure in these years and were experiencing some problems with the bluing "flaking". Every so often a gun was pulled from the finish room and the W stamped under the serial number. If the bluing didn't flake, the shipment was shipped. If it did flake, then the whole batch was sent back for re-bluing. It is nice you have your dad's guns. Here now is some free advice. Do not refinish, re-blue or alter the guns. They are just great the way they are.

ELKSLAYER, I like your name. I have been known to hunt the wily beasts myself. The problem you will encounter with putting a scope on the little 250-3000 is multifold. First mounts have not been available for the little gun for 50 years. Second most scope rear oculars are too large and will not allow the bolt to be raised fully. Next you would be altering an original antique. The value would decrees $100 per hole drilled at a minimum. Lastly once done it can never ever be undone. By the time expense you would have spent to alter an original gun you could by far have bought a modern rifle already set up for a scope. Please give it some serious thought before proceeding.

You may be surprised what you can do with that peep sight set up, once you learn it

Does the Winchester have a straight grip or semi- pistol grip and a curved lever?
If its the latter, its probably a model 64.
It should be stamped on the barrel.

I have only seen one 1920 Savage and tried to buy it. It was rougher than a cob and I would have had to redo it, it was past a collector gun. The guy drug his feet for a long time. I quit trying. It was light, trim and neat. I wanted it for a light woods walker.
I think a peep is the way to go also.

Does your Savage look like this one?
Show us some pics and we'll be able to tell you more about your rifles.
