I have a Ruger 5.5-inch bull barrel .22 auto, stainless, a MK II. I added non- thumbrest wooden Ruger checkered grips. Otherwise std.

Have the case, papers, etc. Probably have 4-5 boxes of .22 Long Rifle through it, mainly CCI Green Tag and Mini-Mags.

Not for sale, but I saw one listed for over $600 on another site. That seemed a bit high.

Keeping in mind that mine is the discontinued MK II that many prefer to the MK III, what is a likely value for it if I ever had to sell? It could pass for NIB. And I kept the Butaprene black grips.

Again, it is NOT for sale. Please don't ask. I just want to know the value. Haven't seen one for sale in a good while.

I don't have a Ruger catalog and can't recall the Ruger stock numbers well. I'll probably look it up Online at the Ruger site, but that won't give me a "real" street price, and current prices are for the MK III.

BTW,I have a Bianchi (Model 89?) holster that I bought when I owned a blued one. My wife got it in our divorce, and when I replaced the gun with my stainless one about ten years ago, the stainless one won't quite fit the holster enough for the retaining strap to fasten. I guess I need to stretch the leather strap a bit. Odd, that...

Id figure 500 or a little more.

Use denatured alcohol to stretch the strap. Or, you can pay about twelve times as much for a little plastic bottle of Shoe Stretch. Same thing.

Been watching the MK 2 on GB for a while looking for a 6 7/8 government model and always liked the 5 1/2" bull target. The blue 5-1/2" at a recent gun show was 400 and GB is about the same but shipping and FFL fees raise it some. The stainless should be a little more. The MK 3 new, I can buy new for 350 + tax. Nice guns, how does yours shoot? Larry

I see them for $450+ lately. Before the gun prices sored I found two for $150 each. A MkI and MkII. One is a red eagle. One bull barrel and one standard barrel. One was so badly leaded up it probably didn't function.
After a GI cleaning and deleading she functions fine.
Your stainless should be worth even more. Seen one hunter model listed for $799, without knowing the exact model there was a $600+ new model too. There are many different s/s models.
Check the new prices out. Used guns once were selling at half the cost of new guns. It ain't so anymore, to me the used guns are selling at 75% of the orginal cost on some guns. Prices still vary..

It's quite accurate, as was the old Blued one. Both shot better than the several Colt Woodsman Match Targets I've owned, but not better than a S&W M-41 or two I tried when someone let me do that at a range.

Gunsmiths can tune the triggers and get a nicer pull and the pure target shooters often do that. I'm sure that a number of national championships have been won with Rugers.

If you like, you can probably find a copy Online of the Nov-Dec. 1980 American Handgunner and read my article in it about the Ruger .22 auto pistols. I gave a bit of info about how well these guns have held up in clubs in Europe and in South Africa, when the latter nation was under a UN arms embargo. Guns got through, but some were shot harder than usual, due to shortages and to being club-owned, in some cases. But a Ruger exec told me that some Euro club guns have gone beyond a MILLION rounds! He was quite serious. Those are used by members who haven't gotten legal permission to buy their own guns yet, in some countries.

I think these Ruger .22 autos are the best buy of their class. But even used ones are no longer as inexpensive as they used to be.


BTW, if you read that article, the MK I in the pics I took is the one that my ex got. She swapped me a kitchen table for it, and I guess we were both satisfied. Look for the color photo that Ruger's PR man furnished of gun No. One Million, suitably engraved and with ivory stocks.

I agree on prices, and I think it's because the older guns usually just are better and have more class and the nostalgia factor working for them.

The downside is that if shot a lot, they'll eventually need repairs and parts and that can be an issue. That's why I don't fire a lot of .357 loads in my older revolvers. It accelerates cylinder endshake and timing problems that I'd sooner avoid, and I don't need .357 power in a "range gun" for casual shooting.

But the Ruger .22 auto pistols last practically forever, given suitable care.
