After market I stick with Mec-gar ( for whatever) or Wilson Combat for 1911s.
Edit: I should make it clear I exterminated with several brands of "inexpensive" magazines back in the late 70s and early 80s.....never found any that I would use outside of the range......fact is I have a box of "Range Mags".....that I haven't used in years!!!

There are so many good and inexpensive ones out there. Try CDNN.

Generally the follower and the tubes are OK but the springs suck. This is pretty universal when it comes to promags.
People bash them all the time and I agree they are not in my "good" to go category but I have been "given" some over the years changed the springs and they became decent range mags.
If I were buying new I would look elsewhere. I personally like Chip McCormick Power mags and Checkmates with hybrid followers. These are generally much cheaper than Wilsons. I used to drink the Wilson Kool-aid but no longer.

I echo what was said in the thread.
Personally, I never had great success with Pro Mag magazines. If they are cheap enough, I might "try" them at the range but I would never use Pro Mags for CCW.
Just my 2 cents!

I would only buy Pro mag if the factory mags I needed were either very expensive or hard to fine and if I did, I would only use them for the range - not for SD. There are a ton of quality 1911 mags out there for cheap. Mec-gar as someone pointed out are very good as well as Act-Mag.
PS - I should add Promag customer service sucks too! Emailed them several times with the same question hoping to get an answer. Ended up calling them. Why companies offer email and don't respond is beyond me.

I've got 3 of the pro mags now for my ATI 1911. All Rural King had in stock.
They've all 3 worked without 1 hiccup.
But I've only put 375 rds down range in 3 range trips.
Now I've bought a pro mag 10rd for my 995TS carbine.
And that thing is a ***. Guess it's really hit or miss with pro mags.

Well, pro mag is better than triple K, if that is all I could find I guess I would buy some more Pro-mags, there are plenty of better choices out there, in fact, most choices will be better than Pro-mag.

It always amazes me when people have good reports on them. After trying in several different firearms I developed the belief that the company is secretly owned by gun-control advocates. Because 1. They make it so frustrating to shoot that you could easily throw up your hands and quit or 2. They turn otherwise reliable firearms into jam-o-matics thus removing what would otherwise be a reliable firearm from circulation!

I can't say anything bad about Promag as I've never owned any for any gun.
For 1911's I've had Wilson, Checkmate and Metalform mags all run flawless in all the 1911's I own and in 2 calibers (9mm & 45acp).
I bought some D&H mags in 45acp and while they feed fine they will only lock the slide back on the last round for the Sig, and that's 50/50.

When you make millions of them you are bound to get a few right!
The ones I've had have always came with the gun and none have ever worked well, not even for range mags. How the have been in business for so long and still make such poop is beyond me.

I think a lot of their mags are bought by non-shooters because they are cheaper than other mags....... they end up in a nightstand or sock drawer with their new gun................

Pro Magazines have service to match their magazines. Can you say the word JUNK. They will make a great target to shoot at once you feed up with the quality. Stay with a Wilson,Mec-Gar or McCormick you can't go wrong.

I had 3 for my Sig 228. It was hard to get the 13th rd in but they functioned every time. I sold them with that 228 and new factory "phosphate" mags are $20 ea so I replaced them for my current 228. Joe

Promags= mixed bag.
I have a Makarov doublestack, and the OEM mags are very rare, and go for over $100 when they pop up online. The Promags themselves usually go for over $50. The gun itself came with a promag, that functions fine. I found 2 others for suggested retail ($20 apiece), bought them, they need to be tuned.
I found one for my 39-2, it seems good to go. Not a ton through it though. I'd trust the factory mag first.
Honestly, if you are willing to take a chance on cheap 1911 mags, I'd say give Sarco a try. I got a couple of their $10 mags, and thus far they are 100%.

I had two "Ruger" Promags that came with my LC9s. I have to echo the junk comments from other posters. They didn't quite fit correctly and both would disengage when firing. Ruger replaced both with no questions asked - and sent high quality MecGar mags ...

I bought 3 Chip McCormick Shooting Star stainless mags. I've used them in my Kimber and 2 Colt National match guns, no problems. They were on sale at the time.
I see Midway has stainless Shooting Stars for 21.99. I like the Chip, don't see a need to spend almost double on anything else.

This. I have several 1911's & think the CM SS are hard to beat for value for money.
