Sig p220 recoil spring question....
I purchased a used p220 and wanted to upgrade the recoil spring. I then purchased a new recoil spring (not from Sig) and it is green on one end and 1 1/8 inch longer than the original. When I installed it - I can't get the slide to go fully to the rear.
Does this new recoil spring sound like the right part? Is this normal for a new recoil spring? Any help - advice would be appreciated before I call Sig. Thx

Not normal.
Where did you get the new spring? It should be green on the end if you have a full size 220, red if you have a 220 Carry.
Did you seat the guide rod back in it's little cut out on the barrel?

Off the top of my head I believe the older P220s had #15 springs newer ones have #20 springs. Green ended spring is a #20. Make sure the green part is on the guide rod not on the slide. The painted end is a bit narrower. The newer spring in and older gun could be the issue or it could be installed backwards.

The older guns West German 3 ser.#, Welded slide have 15lb. single wire springs.
I have changed out the wrong springs in many early Sigs.

As the old saying goes, a picture is worth a 1,000 words. New on the top (green) and original on the bottom. I believe based on the S\N this was manufactured in 2005. If I need a #15, can I still find one or do I need to cut the #20?
Thx

Is your slide stainless steel or folded carbon? 2005 was the start of the stainless slide as the default.

stainless slide & black frame.
Well - here's the best part - i didn't even know what I purchased LOL. After looking on the Sig website and taking some measurements, this appears to be close if not in fact the "carry" version. I only know I wanted the DAk and it's definitely that.
Duh - that's embarassing.
Anyway - the sig store shows the Carry 220 recoil spring (red). It also has 9 coils like mine - so I think I need the carry recoil spring.

Are you sure you don't have a 220 Carry. Is that red I see on your original spring there?

I would think it would work but clearly it is not. I would get a 15 lbs Wolf spring.

Also your original red spring is a multi strand, the old 15lbs were not.

WVSig is the winner! Thanks again guys!
BTW - one last question. I purchased a few Act-mags for the p220. They seem to get good reviews. I figure if they are not - use for the range.
Are they as good as factory sig mags?

They are good mags. There was a time where there were some issues with the tubes but these days they have been reinforced and are a great value at about $20 vs Sig OEM for $40.
