Apparently you do not draw from a holster or reload during the test. If I'm interpreting it correctly you would need one extra mag on your belt because it appears you have to clear jams then attempt to complete the required number of shots within the time limit. The most shots you have to fire before stopping is 5 which technically does not rule out a single action revolver but only good cowboys would make the time limits. There is no minimum caliber on the linked pdf so perhaps you can use a .22?

Walther P1 magazines are still available for around $15 to $20 from sources on the net if you still need some.
P1 mags are the same as P38 though the ID stamp will obviously be different on the side and the P1 usually has the grooved follower.
They usually charge a couple extra $$ for the P38 marked ones.
These are all post war production of course. Not as plentiful or as inexpensive as a couple of years ago even. All good things come to an end!

Any war time mfg magazines are collectibles and get their usually demanded higher prices.

StakeOut,

An important question relevant to using his P 38 is not answered in the pdf. How do they start the timed strings? Do they start gun in hand, cocked, safety off like a Glock match or would he have to use the DA? The P 38's double action is not as easy to use accurately as many more modern DA/SA pistols.

I had the pistol on the bench with the mag out

I suspect this is not set in stone and just dictated by the person giving the course.

I suggest asking the instructor that will be giving your course well ahead of your qualification day.

Oh,check Groupon for deals on the Carry classes in your area.

The normal cost at my range is $100 that does not include the license fee paid to the state or any fingerprinting fees.

Old folks like me get a reduced rate.

Extra likes for this one. I'm book-marking it. I need to order three, and this will greatly help.

In reading the statutes for CPL in Michigan, I don't believe there is an actual requirement to use a "powder-burning" firearm. In fact I've heard of instructors using airsoft and bb guns for the course. I may do that myself when I get my instructor license as there are really no local ranges where I live and I think it's against the law to use the national forest for a "money-making" venture.

Your state's license requirements and testing may be the reason your permit is not recognized by other states.

But the Colt kicks like an angry mule. I know the G.I. doesn't do much but was just wondering from a taking a shooting POV, what y'all thought.
