Old Original finally makes it back home
Grew up as a youngster playing with this old Original gun with my brother but it never left the gun room.
It started in my fathers home in the Bay area in Marin county and has been in Oklahoma for fourteen years
and now has finally made it to the old home site in Northern Nevada.
Always nice to keep the old timers in the family.
Here is a picture for you to enjoy.

I have always admired the look of a straight stock, percussion shotgun for some reason.
I've never owned, or fired one, but I admire them.

That's an interesting shotgun. I'd be interested to know more about it. Maker? Age? Historical highlights?

The Wells Fargo stage line was started back in 1857 by John Butterfield.
A sample of what a fee/fair might have been back in those days were:
1st Class : $7 ( road all the way )
2nd Class : had to walk at the bad places in the road.
3rd Class : same as above but had to push at hills.
Between 1870 and 1884, Wells Fargo stages were the target of 347 robbery attempts, across the system from Missouri to the home office in San Francisco.
Some of the shotgun messengers were Wyatt & Morgan Earp, Wild Bill Hickok, William Frederick "Buffalo Bill" Cody and Stagecoach Mary.
I am hoping to maybe find out if Eugene Blair on the Eureka to Pioche Nevada rout or Charley Parkhurst of 1812-1879, a tobacco chewing, ruff and tumble female guard, may have handled this weapon.

Bores don't look too bad. Are you going to shoot it with black powder?

Nice gun Ed. Part of Cow Boy period history.
I picked up this 1875 Parker 10Ga a couple years ago. It sat behind the tellers cage at a Michigan Bank from 1906 until 1950 when it was awarded to the bank President when he retired. I bought it from his son.
Got a letter from the Parker Historical Association which documents a man from Tennessee sent it back in 1877 to have the shorter barrels installed.
Upon researching the name of the sender, it shows that he was a retired Confederate soldier with two pension numbers? I wonder if he took a job of the same type as Ed's owners did?
