Found a "KA-BAR"
Not a military example but has a 4" blade with stag handles. Under the KA-BAR on the blade's left side is stamped: Reg.U.S.PAT OFF. On the right side : UNION CUTLERY CO. and under that is: OLEAN, N.Y.
Colored spacers blade end of grip: black-brass-red-brass-and the guard.
Colored spacers grip end of grip: same black-brass-red-brass-black but the red is less thick.
Countersunk Aluminum Cap with the threaded brass screwed into the countersink thus tightening all the grip parts. There are two brass pins through both stag panels.
I hope I haven't written this so as to confuse the knife experts and would ask if anyone has any idea of the age and ballpark value? There is a leather scabbard that seems to be the proper age if this is an old KA-BAR! Thanks for your help.
PS: The red is an off red not bright

Sounds like a mod to the knife. Not an issue piece. Maybe after market?

KaBar made lots of knives other than the USMC issue. Entirely possible that it is an actual KaBar brand but is a civilian knife, not a military issue.

Looks like a nice one, Sam.
Ka-Bar made (and still makes) many styles of knives.

Thanks to all for the coments
I do appreciate the comments but no one has hazarded a estimate as to its age or its approximate value and I am very interested to learn these things if someone/anyone knows.

No help with value. However, in 1952 Union Cutlery renamed itself KA-BAR Cutlery Inc.
So I would suggest it was made prior to 1952.

Found On Ebay
I saw that none also but the blade is of the Military design and appears to be at least 6" where the one pictured by Charlie is around 4". I thank you for the date estimate gunnails and the other observations as well.

My father had a knife like the shorter, but with a plastic (?) handle. I don't have it; his second wife probably sold it after his death. She didn't even tell me or my bros. when he died. Found out months later.
I think that knife dated from the 1930's. Could be the '20's. He was born shortly after WWI.

I agree with Texas Star. A nice early Olean's KA-BAR. When KA-BAR is written as above it is pre 1972??? as after this date the blades were marked Kabar. A very nice condition unclean hunting knife of the 1920's thru the 1940's as a general date. Well thought of and desirable in its condition. $150 would be a good estimate of value. That is if it is left un-cleaned and unpolished. Do those things to this beauty and the value would be about half. Nice knife that I would like to have in my collection.

Looks kind of like a Marbles (MSA-Gladstone, MI) of the same era. Love those old knives!
