Default Any dipped guns out there

I thought this would spark some interest as a friend and gunsmith of mine did some dipping in some very interesting patterns on guns, helmets and a lot of custom motorcycle work. So after a little contemplating I settled on having one of my old C&R Star pistols which I acquired back in the 90's dipped in a scull pattern....I have less than $100 into the gun so I thought what the heck why not. I'll post before and after pics of the Star Modelo Super in 9mmLargo. I reload and shoot this "different looking" gun. I'm sure I am not the only one out there with one of these unique pieces. Regards Rich

I think it's a pretty safe assumption that you have the only one like that at the range on any given day.

I'm curious how it's done.

I just had my AR done in Kryptec Typhon. I like it, but I don't think that I'd do it again. Or at least the way that I did it.

Why I wouldn't do it again, is because I chose to take apart my AR myself and keep the innards to reassemble after it was done. Zach dipped it, and the film is actually kind of thick, then he clear coated it. When I went to reassemble, the film and the clear coat was still in all of the holes. I spent more time cleaning the holes out than I did reassembling the AR. After shooting it, I realized that I did not clean out the hole for the mag release good enough. When I pushed on the mag release, it started peeling the film off the side of the receiver. Totally my error, and nothing to do with the dip, or the dipper. If I were to do it again, I would have the dipper di-assemble and re-assemble.

Also, When putting the sites(diamondhead) back on, They were tight. I scratched the front of the top rail up pretty good. I needed to use a punch to get it in place.

The guy that I had do it did a great job, He gets a lot of "fix it" jobs from people that got poor dips. He has had Harley Davidson invite him to some shows to show off his work as an option to their customers as well as having been contracted by Yeti coolers to do some dipping for them.

I also have it on my cell phone case. The same pattern, from the same guy. I've kind of beat the case around. So far, no scratches. It's holding up pretty dang good.

Default I generally don't like this stuff....

....but on a $100 gun what's the harm? I think it looks good with that in mind and a heck of a lot better than some of the 'aesthetically enhanced' guns I've seen here.

I have a Modelo Super in about 95% shape, but I don't think I'd do the dip thing even on a beater. To me, it looks less like a firearm, more like a toy. BTW, a "scull" is what college rowing teams sit in.
Just FYI

To me, I don't care for it. I'd prefer the previous look of the firearm. But, it's your gun and if it pleases you, who am I to criticize?

As much as I love carbon fiber, I've not seen anything that looks good, except the real thing.

Some of that hydro dipping is pretty neat. Would love to get one with unicorns and rainbows for my AK-would drive the shrinks crazy
I'd be cautious about shooting someone with a gun with skulls on it though-wouldn't look too good at trial
Amazing the stuff they can do. BTW as far as durability goes-I imagine that is the same stuff as the camo dip they are doing for shotguns and that seems to wear pretty well - at least as far as I can see from my buddy's shotgun (me-I'm "black" man myself when it comes to my shotguns, but the more I think about it-why not a pink flowered 870????????)

Some neat/different looks......but ..... I'd never refinish a gun in a manor/color that would make it look like a "toy".........JMO!

CAJ.... pink shirts, ties;...... now shotguns!!!!!!!! Things that make you go ...hummmmmmmmmm!!!!!
