Default Kimber Revolver

"If,it lives up to the hype," anyone thinking of getting one??
I will have to really check it out before putting down $890 for a
non S&W revolver.

I doubt the actual retail price will be $890, more like $700.

The concept, a six-shot Detective Special sized revolver is
excellent along with its touted 10-pound DA trigger pull.

And I'm sure the "prototypes" at the SHOT Show were well
put together, i.e. polished in fitting of the internals.

But I'm not impressed with Kimber's 1911s nor are the half dozen
LGS/dealers I trade with. And I'm afraid the K6 will turn into just a well hyped product with the continued poor customer service.

J-frames and Ruger's 101 nor its LCR products will suffer in sales.

The extractor star looks of questionable construction on that Kimber. Probably won't stay in time very long.

If it is built to the same standard as the 1911's it should be worth about $400. Every Kimber 1911 I ever handled had as many faults as any other mfg. and are just not worth the 50% higher price they are listed at.

If its like anything else made by Kimber, it'll be a decent revolver, but seriously over rated and over priced. I'll pass.

In the same class size is the Rossi R46202 although an exposed hammer. This newer Rossi has a vastly improved quality construction over the older models. Probably the equal of the Kimber based on past experiences with Kimber products. Take a look before deciding.

Yeah I think I will pass. Unless I get a good deal on a used one down the road. But it wouldn't get carried near as much as my M&P 340.

I bought several Kimbers in their first years of 1911 production. The Series 1 Kimbers I had were all an excellent value because their prices were competitive with Colt and the Kimbers had extra features and fitting on them that saved a bunch of $$$ over having your Colt accurized, fitted for a trigger and matched hammer/sear, and blah blah blah. The Series 2 guns have the Shwartz type safety, which I'd never leave in place should I make the mistake of buying one. The finish on new Kimbers does not wear well. Now in addition to the 157,000 1911 models they have, Kimber makes a Solo 9mm single stack compact auto, and a .380 that's a direct copy of the Mustang. All the major firearms mfgs. are crossing boundaries into new territories as in Sig, Smith, and Ruger making 1911's. All this is possible BECAUSE THEY CAN via a computer and CNC machining. I don't see a Kimber revolver in my future because there's so many time tested less expense revolvers available now.

I think I'll wait until I can fat finger in "Kimber Revolver" into the Search block on Ebay and come up with the same 4512 returns that "Smith Revolver" gives me. I've done the early adopter thing before and it never turns out to be a positive experience.

I guess I have been influenced by the reports or reviews from the local shop and on line. Seems there are issues with quality control and their CS is not as nice as say SW, Ruger SA etc. Maybe that is not true, just disgruntled customers. So I have no first had experience with them.

I picked up a Solo at the shop to look it over it appears very nice and well made, but how well does it function? For the price they should be flawless, perhaps that is the issue?. On a lesser price gun you can expect it but even the Kel Tec as great customer service.

Can't say it doesn't interest me, especially since it holds six rounds. That said, I'd prefer an exposed hammer like my Model 36, or a shrouded one like my Model 49. Pretty sure it'll be above my pay grade, which is OK. I'm caught up on snubbies.

I'm not really impressed with it. I also don't care for the newer S&W's (i.e...with the lock).

The short of it "is" there are too many older S&W's, Colts & Ruger revolvers that interest me before I would consider one made by Kimber.

The only Kimber's I have any interest in are the "early" .22 rimfire rifles that got Kimber it's start. When quality was paramount ...... later on Kimber firearms' quality dropped IMO.

I am pleased that another gun maker is getting to revolver production. The 6th round vs size is the only interesting thing to me on this one. Given Kimber's QC reputation, I will wait a year (or 3) before even considering picking one of these up.

I love my J-frames. I also have an SP101 that I enjoy. I'd like to see Smith expand the current K-frame production back into the short barrel world.
