Two Good Semi-Autos
S&W 539 and Beretta 8040F, both DA/SA with slide-mounted decocker/safety as was popular back in the 1980s when these were made. The S&W is 9mm while the Beretta is .40 S&W (you'd think the reverse makes more sense but they are what they are). All steel, the 539 turns 9mm into a true creampuff while the Beretta's unique rotating barrel system softens .40 S&W quite a bit. Both are fun to shoot.

I have the Beretta 8040 and love it, couldn't agree more with you on that one!
The 8040 is a great handgun to shoot and at one time I did use as my CCW. I also have a Cougar 8045 which is a pleasure to shoot as well! I own a Smith 39 that I enjoy shooting but keep it mainly for what it is to me as a Collectable.

Love the Model 539 and the stocks on it. I've never seen one of these rare birds in person.

There is something about rotary lock-up systems that changes the recoil impulse compared to a typical tilting barrel design. Not having the mass of the barrel slamming into the cam pin probably helps. The recoil on my Grand Power Mk7 in 9mm is spookily low. http://smith-wessonforum.com/firearm...ge-report.html

My god man... The smith's grips could be used for a traffic cone.
Still like it though.

I had a beretta 8040. I traded it off for a Mini-14, which was a real good trade, but I still wish I had that 8040. It felt perfect in my hand and was fun to shoot.

I purchased the Stoeger version of the "Beretta" cougar 8045 brand NIB for $299 on GB. They are still out there in .40 and .45 at that price too! I say "Beretta" because Stoeger is owned by the same folks that own Beretta (Benelli I think). As the story goes, Stoeger Cougars use the same Beretta Cougar machinery only made in Turkey. Same gun only different name. I purchased extra mags from Beretta USA. What a great shooting pistol for that price! Almost rivals my P220 (not quite tho). If I carry a 45acp this is the one I go to.
For that price you should grab one.
Cheers!

I also own an 8045 from Berreta/Stoeger. With my olde arthritic mechanics hands it is the only 45ACP I can shoot full tilt, even +P loads in and not be bothered by the recoil at all. Inmy 1911's I can only stand to shoot target loads. Having been an Army gunsmith in the late 50's early 60's and worked on thousands of 1911's, the 8045 is the only .45 I'll carry with a round in the chamber, decocked. It's the gun I take with me when I travel the highways of America. Forgot to mention, this is my third one. I would take friends shooting and they would insist on buying it, so I'm on my third.

A good auto... IWI Jericho. Yes, another CZ Clone. They are awesome though. My son has a 45 ACP, and I recently bought an un-issued military gun in .40. They shoot well, and being all steel, do not give you much recoil. Someday, I will own a real CZ. Bob
